The Moon’s Forsaken Daughter: The Queen Returns Chapter 02

Asher froze in place, then strode after me.

“Tomorrow is your father’s—our Alpha’s—fiftieth birthday celebration. He misses you. Make sure you come early.”

I paused for a second, then quickened my pace.

As far as I was concerned, I lost my father five years ago.

Five years ago, at my mother’s funeral, in front of the entire pack, Alpha Marcus Vance brought his illegitimate daughter home and announced she would be officially recognized.

“I just made a small mistake that any male wolf would make.”

“Bella has been wandering alone for over twenty years. I waited until after your mother passed to bring her home. I’ve done right by your mother.”

So, to make it up to her, he let Bella take my room and my jewelry.

He let her play the “innocent little sister” and destroy the mate bond between Asher and me.

When I was attacked by rogues and rushed to a human hospital, the nurse called him to sign the consent forms. He said:

“Today is my younger daughter’s mating ceremony. I can’t go to a place like a hospital, full of human germs.”

“I know Lily. She’s been overdramatic since she was a pup. Broken bones, major blood loss… she’s lying. Your hospital is a place for saving lives, don’t play along with her games.”

“My daughter is calling for me. The ceremony is about to start. Don’t call again.”

Lying on the operating table, I could feel the pity and sympathy in the eyes of the human doctors and nurses.

They had probably never seen a pack member so utterly abandoned by her own kind.

My thoughts returned to the present. I pulled down my sleeve to cover the hideous scar on my arm and took a cab back to my hotel.

That evening, I video-chatted with my mate and my cub.

My mate, Damian, is a clingy Alpha. Just like our cub, Leo, he can’t stand to be away from me for even a day.

“Honey, your brother says he’s homesick too. He’s packing now and will fly back with us tomorrow morning.”

My adoptive brother, Elias Thorne, popped his head into the frame.

“That’s right, little sis. Dad and I talked it over. Auntie’s gravestone is a big deal. We have to be there.”

“Besides, Dad and I can inspect our pack’s assets in the area. You take care of yourself. Make sure you eat well and stay warm. Your old knee injury always acts up at night.”

The car crash five years ago left me with a permanent injury.

Elias, who was my mentor at the time, was the first to find me when I was a rogue.

During my five years with the Stormcrest Pack, he took me in. His father, Alpha Alistair Thorne, adopted me as his own daughter, giving me a new life.

They are my real family.

I smiled and nodded. We chatted a little longer before I reluctantly hung up.

It feels so good to have a family that cares.
