That afternoon, I had just walked out of Adrian’s Pack Law Firm.

I had barely reached the corner when a familiar figure suddenly rushed out from behind a flower bed and grabbed my arm.

“Lyra! I finally found you!”

It was Mira.

Tears covered her face. She looked exhausted and desperate.

I didn’t pull away.

I didn’t ask why she was here.

I simply stopped walking and lowered my eyes to the hand clutching my sleeve.

Her nails still had the same pink manicure we had chosen together the last time we went out.

Soft.

Delicate.

It used to represent the friendship I thought we had.

Now, it only felt like a cruel reminder.

“Let go.”

My voice was calm.

Mira froze.

She clearly hadn’t expected this reaction from me.

She still remembered the old Lyra.

The girl who would panic the moment Mira cried.

The girl who would hand her tissues, wipe away her tears, and do everything she could to make her feel better.

But I was no longer that person.

Mira slowly released my arm and pulled a stack of folded papers from her bag.

“Lyra, I know I was wrong. I really regret it…”

She hurriedly pushed the papers into my hands.

“Are you here to apologize?”

I took the papers but didn’t open them.

“Yes! Lyra, please listen to me.”

She wiped her tears and took a shaky breath.

“I really didn’t know things would turn out this way.”

“I thought… I thought I was only teaching you a lesson.”

“Selena said that if you suffered a little, you would finally change.”

“I wasn’t trying to hurt you. I was only trying to help you, Lyra.”

I looked at her.

And for the first time, I found her words almost laughable.

There was no true regret in her apology.

She wasn’t sorry for what she had done to me.

She was only afraid of the consequences she was about to face,

I lowered my eyes and opened the letter.

Inside were only a few crooked lines.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have played such a cruel joke.”

I read the words quietly.

Then I folded the paper back up.

“Mira.”

“The moment you gave my photos to Kael, we stopped being friends.”

Her face instantly changed.

“Lyra…”

I didn’t give her another chance to explain.

I tore the apology letter in half.

Then into smaller pieces.

Finally, I crushed them into a ball and dropped them into the trash can beside me.

“Spend your time behind bars thinking about what you did.”

After saying that, I turned around and walked away.

I never looked back.
