The Marriage License Was A Lie Chapter 09

The Marriage License Was A Lie Chapter 09

Adrian jerked in panic and tore at his wound.

Chloe had just been wheeled in after getting her stitches. When she heard the explosive news, she looked just as stunned.

“What?”

“Who’s going after our companies?”

Mr. Whitmore’s face darkened instantly as he turned to Adrian.

“What the hell did you do to Evelyn Blackwood?”

At that moment, Adrian sat there hollow-eyed, as if all the life had drained out of him. He never would have imagined that Evelyn was the head of the most powerful family among the northern capital’s elite.

No wonder she had not been afraid of him.

No wonder she had been able to fight her way out of such a desperate situation.

Only someone at her level could have pulled that off.

Chloe, who still did not know who I really was, gritted her teeth and said, “What else could we have done to her?”

“We just mocked her background, fooled her with a fake marriage certificate, and threw cockroaches into the bathroom while she was taking a bath to scare her…”

Before Chloe could finish, Mr. Prescott lifted his foot and kicked her off the bed.

“You actually dared to treat her like that? No wonder she’s taking revenge on you so viciously.”

“You two reckless idiots dragged both our families into hell.”

Chloe had been spoiled all her life. She never expected her own grandfather to kick her out of bed, and for a moment, she was completely stunned.

“Grandpa, why did you kick me?”

Her surgery had only just ended, and the wound had not healed. The fall tore it open again, and blood immediately began to pour out.

If she had not offended someone they could never afford to provoke, Mr. Prescott would have felt sorry for her.

But now, he wished he could announce to the public right away that Chloe had been expelled from the Prescott family, if that was what it took to save them.

“Hurry. Find Evelyn Blackwood.”

“We have to go to her in person and beg for forgiveness.”

“Apologize?”

Chloe forced herself to stand despite the pain. Afraid she would say something stupid again, the assistant quickly told her who Evelyn really was.

The moment Chloe heard it, her eyes went wide. She stood there frozen for a long time, as if the truth had hit her like a physical blow.

Meanwhile, the two family heads had already rushed out, doing everything they could to find Evelyn.

At that very moment, I was looking at the stock charts on my tablet.

I had thought the Whitmore and Prescott families would have some ability to fight back. In the end, they were pathetically fragile.

Security here was airtight. Unless I chose to go out, no one could find me.

Three days later, both companies completely collapsed, and the news caused a massive stir.

Everyone outside was guessing who the two families that had lorded over Kingston for so long had offended, for them to be destroyed in just a few days.

Adrian no longer had the luxury of staying in the hospital to recover. His assistant pushed him out of the hospital in a wheelchair.

He had been an illegitimate son to begin with. Without my strategies and support, he never would have secured his position as heir.

Yet he had insisted on destroying himself.

He had looked down on the very woman who helped him, all because he thought my background was beneath him.

Now I was taking everything back and turning him back into the nobody he started as.

The moment he returned to the Whitmore residence, a vase came flying at him and hit him head-on.

Blood trickled down from his forehead, but he did not dare say a word.

Mr. Whitmore was so furious that he rushed over and slapped him across the face again.

“You still have the nerve to come back? Your stupidity caused all of this.”

“I don’t care what method you use. Find Evelyn Blackwood and beg her to spare the Whitmore family. Otherwise, I’ll throw you out, cut you off, and strip you of the Whitmore name forever.”

As for Chloe, Mr. Prescott had already thrown her out of the Prescott family.

She had offended too many people, and now every one of them was waiting in line to take revenge on her.

After dealing with the two families, I no longer wanted to stay in Kingston.

Before I left, Adrian finally found me.

He knelt in front of my car.

“Evelyn, I know I was wrong.”

“I should never have looked down on your background, and I should never have let them mock you and torment you.”

“I was stupid. Only now do I understand that the one who was never worthy was me.”

With every sentence he spoke, he slammed his forehead against the pavement.

His forehead hit the cold pavement with a heavy thud.

Inside the car, I felt nothing.

The moment the window rolled down, Adrian’s eyes lit up with joy.

Then he saw Sebastian’s arm around my waist, and his smile froze.

“No matter how many times you bow, you won’t save Whitmore Group.”

Adrian stared at us in a daze, as if he had never expected another man to be by my side so soon after I left him.

He kept telling himself I did not matter, but the moment he saw another man holding me, he panicked.

Limping, he rushed forward and asked with a dark expression, “Evelyn, who is he?”

“How can you let him hold you like that? Then what am I?”

I smiled, lifted my head, and kissed Sebastian on the cheek before turning back to Adrian.

“He’s my fiancé. You’re trash.”

“I’m the head of the Blackwood family. How could a low-class waste like you ever be worthy of me?”

Adrian froze.

My words sounded painfully familiar to him.

Hadn’t he said something just like that to me only a few days ago?

Now I was giving it back to him, word for word.

Sebastian gave him one cold glance before raising the window with complete indifference.

Adrian panicked and reached out to stop it, but he was far too slow.

“Let’s go.”

“Don’t bother with garbage like him.”

Outside the car, Adrian limped after us.

“Evelyn Blackwood, come back!”

“I’m begging you. Please come back!”

Only after the car disappeared completely from his sight did he finally collapse to his knees and wail.

Without my help, he never would have risen in the first place.

Now he was back in the gutter where he started, and this time, no one was coming to pull him out.
