The Man Who Ruined My 22nd, the Customer Who Wanted a Steamed Bun Chapter 07

Vivienne Shaw took off her sunglasses with arrogant ease.

Her expensive pink-diamond earrings catching the light.

She flashed her phone screen with an entitled shrug.

“GPS tracker.”

She stepped forward, the sharp click of her heels drawing closer and closer, coming to a heavy halt right in front of my counter.

Scanning me from head to toe, a smug sneer spread across her full red lips, her contempt flying out in the open.

“Elena, long time no see. You look even worse than I imagined.”

I gave her a symbolic once-over too.

Expensive designer clothes, lace-trimmed silk gloves, Valentino heels.

Then I looked away and smiled.

“Yeah. You don’t look as happy as I imagined either.”

“You!”

Vivienne’s eyes filled with fury, but in order to preserve the image of a proper heiress, she quickly forced it down.

She casually lifted the lid from one of the warming trays.

A full tray of pale, fresh steamed buns came into view.

She acted as though she had touched something filthy and tossed the lid onto the floor in disgust.

“Hah. The former Quinn princess, reduced to selling cheap buns in the middle of nowhere. I’d be embarrassed to even say it out loud. If people heard, they’d laugh themselves sick.”

I quickly picked the lid up from the floor and rinsed it in the sink.

“Really? Then please don’t be embarrassed. Go out and advertise for me as much as you can. I’ve been worried this shop doesn’t have enough customers.”

“Whether they laugh or not doesn’t matter, as long as they come here to buy something.”

I shook the water off the lid and smiled at Vivienne.

“If you really bring customers in, I’ll give you a fifty-fifty cut.”

Her face visibly flushed with anger.

“Who said I was going to bring customers for you?”

“No, wait. Who said I’d split a cut with you? Do I look like I need your pocket change?”

She was practically stomping with rage.

I remained completely unbothered.

She had failed to show off, and frustrated that she couldn’t break me, she looked like she was about to claw her hair out.

Elliot frowned, grabbed Vivienne’s arm, and tried to pull her outside.

“Let’s go. That’s enough.”

Vivienne jerked free of him.

She looked at him, then at me.

“Well, well, Elliot Mercer. Your heart really does lean one way, doesn’t it?”

“And you, Elena. Isn’t living your low, pathetic little life enough? Why are you still dreaming about crawling back to Elliot and enjoying the good life again?”

She stepped closer once more and used her sunglasses to lift my chin.

“Don’t forget. Every dollar he has came from my parents.”

Then she suddenly covered her mouth, pretending to have just remembered.

“Oh, sorry. I forgot. They used to be your parents too.”

“Too bad that was only in the past.”

“Now you’re nothing but the stray dog the Quinn family threw out.”

“If you think you can come back, keep dreaming.”

After saying that, she stood there with triumph radiating from every inch of her.

It made me want to laugh.

“Vivienne, I’m genuinely curious. What exactly are you trying to compare yourself to? A woman who owns a breakfast shop?”

“Do you forget sometimes that I was only the child taken home by mistake, and you’re their biological daughter?”

I patted her shoulder with earnest sincerity.

“Why are you still so insecure? Relax. No one is fighting you for anything.”

She slapped my hand away and pointed at my face.

She looked like she wanted to hit me, but was desperately trying to restrain herself from looking like a total psycho.

After holding it in and holding it in, she finally forced out one sentence.

“Elena, I’m so sick of seeing you like this. I regret ever knowing you. I never should have known you at all.”
