The Mafia’s Unwanted Daughter Is Now Their Downfall Chapter 04

The Mafia’s Unwanted Daughter Is Now Their Downfall Chapter 04

When I opened my eyes the next day, it was already ten o’clock.

I threw myself out of bed and ran for the door, not even bothering to put on shoes.

The moment I opened it, I collided right into my parents, Matteo, and Bianca, who were just returning from the photo shoot.

I fell hard to the floor.

A shard of glass on the ground sliced into the sole of my foot, and blood immediately began to well up.

But I couldn’t feel a thing.

My mind was consumed by a single thought.

I’d been erased from the Family record. Again.

Matteo glanced at the blood on the floor, his voice ice-cold.

“So, to avoid admitting you’re a Moretti in front of the allies, you’d really pull a stunt like this?”

“Elena, you’ve really outdone yourself.”

Then he turned and went back to his room without a second glance.

My parents just sighed and walked off in opposite directions.

Only Bianca stayed, chattering about how wonderful the photo shoot had been. Father had put her in the center, Matteo had rested a hand on her shoulder, and several bosses had praised her as the only Moretti daughter worth showing off.

Only at the very end did she seem to remember I was there.

“I know you must feel awful about missing it.”

“But I can ask the retoucher to add you in at the very edge. The allies won’t look that closely.”

She sounded helpful, but her eyes were glittering with triumph.

Then I suddenly remembered the milk from last night.

I shot to my feet and grabbed Bianca by the arm.

“Tell me the truth.”

“Did you put something in that milk so I’d oversleep?”

Bianca’s eyes immediately welled with tears.

“Elena, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”

As we stood there, my eyes darted up and caught the security camera in the corner of the living room.

The mansion’s security footage was never shared with outsiders, but it was stored on internal servers, accessible only to the head of the Family and his advisers for handling internal betrayals.

I shoved Bianca aside, hurried into the study, and pulled up last night’s footage.

The moment the video loaded, my entire body went rigid.

There, on the screen, was Bianca, sneaking around the kitchen, dropping a white pill into the milk before carrying the glass to my room.

Rage erupted in my chest.

So every time I had “overslept,” it hadn’t been an accident.

Just like that security group chat without me, this had been deliberate, too.

My hand slipped in shock, dragging the progress bar back half a month.

And there she was again, putting pills into my milk.

My fingers went cold.

Half a month ago was the day of my entrance exam.

She hadn’t just wanted me to miss the Family photo.

She had wanted to ruin my score—to destroy the one thing that could get me out of here.

As long as I had no score and no public standing, I would have no choice but to remain her shadow.

Luckily, I’d had an upset stomach that day. After drinking the milk, I’d spent most of the night in the bathroom, so the drug never fully took hold.

I couldn’t even imagine what might have happened otherwise.

I copied both recordings and showed them to my parents.

They didn’t react the way I had imagined.

They didn’t follow Family protocol for internal harm by handing Bianca over to the advisers for questioning.

Father just said lightly, “Don’t do this again.”

Then Mother turned and blamed me instead.

“It’s not like anything actually happened, is it?”

“Did you really have to pull up internal footage and let the entire on-duty staff know about it?”

“You’ve scared Bianca.”

They pulled her close, comforting her in low voices.

Matteo came over, too.

“We’re Family. Do you have to be so vindictive?”

“Even if Bianca did something wrong, are you saying you’re completely blameless?”

I lifted my head and looked at the four of them.

Once, they had been my entire world.

Now, I finally saw them for who they were.

My father’s favoritism wasn’t just about kind words or buying more clothes.

He was the head of the Family. His silence was permission. Bianca could harm her own blood and keep her seat at his right hand, while I didn’t even have the standing to demand an investigation.

A laugh escaped me.

As I laughed, tears started to fall.

My parents only looked at me with impatience.

“It’s just one photo, isn’t it? Worst case, we’ll take you for a reshoot tomorrow.”

I stopped, looked at them, and said calmly, “There’s no need.”

There was no need for a reshoot.

And I would never be coming back to this Family.

I went back to my room and pulled out my suitcase.

I didn’t own much to begin with, so packing was fast.

I saved the two videos to a cloud account only I could access, then transferred every last cent from my Family account back where it belonged.

I blocked their numbers, left the family group chat, and deactivated my mansion access and convoy transit permissions.

Finally, I left the encrypted phone issued by the Family on my desk.

It could be used to summon guards, and it also fed my location back to the Moretti mansion. From this moment on, they would no longer be able to use “protection” as a leash.

Then I walked out of the mansion with my suitcase and boarded a flight to the East Coast.

This time, I didn’t look back.
