The Luna Who Heard Cruel Secrets Chapter 01

The Luna Who Heard Cruel Secrets Chapter 01 The Night I Heard The Truth

Alpha Rhett and I grew up together.

Ever since we were little, I was always clinging to him.

When we came of age, we got exactly what I had always wanted–we became mates.

That very night, after Rhett marked me and was about to take things further, I suddenly heard the servants‘ thoughts.

“I overheard the elders saying a White Wolf is coming to the Pack soon. She has to be the Alpha’s real mate.”

“Looks like this Luna is about to be cast aside. I can’t wait to see how pathetic she looks.”

“I heard the same thing. This Luna was only an Omega to begin with. If her father hadn’t died protecting the Pack, there’s no way she’d have become Luna.”

“The Alpha only married her for her father’s sake. It was charity.”

As those thoughts kept pouring into my head, the joy in my chest slowly sank.

I shoved Rhett away.

He snapped his head up, anger blazing in his eyes at being interrupted. His voice came out rough, edged with obvious displeasure.

“You don’t want me, baby?”

My heart stopped for a beat.

I didn’t know how to answer him.

I didn’t even dare meet his eyes.

Under the crushing force of his Alpha presence, all I could do was clutch the blanket beneath me and force myself to sound calm.

“I… I’m a little nervous. Let’s stop here tonight.”

Rhett said nothing. He just stared at me for a few long seconds with those amber eyes of his.

I had no idea whether he had noticed something was wrong.

“Then sleep,” he said at last.

He got off me, turned over, and gave me his back.

I stared at him, and those voices rushed through my mind again. Tears threatened to spill over.

I hurriedly got up and turned off the light.

When I lay back down, bitterness had already flooded my chest.

Slowly, I edged myself all the way to the far side of the bed, trying to put as much distance between us as possible so I wouldn’t disturb him.

The second I reached the edge, the tears finally broke loose.

I clamped a hand over my mouth so hard my fingers hurt, refusing to let myself make even the smallest sound.

Had all my love for him really been one–sided?

Sometimes I sensed something off about Rhett.

Every time I tried to get close to him, he would go stiff–faced, and his pheromones would carry that faint note of reluctance.

But I liked him too much.

His face, his body, his scent–everything about him made me dizzy. I wanted to hang off him twenty–four hours a day.

Rhett would only frown and tell me to stay a little farther away.

Looking back now, every sign had been there.

Every sign had been telling me he did not want this.

I had even used the late Alpha’s name as an excuse to move into Rhett’s manor ahead of schedule.

First, we shared the same manor.

Then the same room.

I stubbornly refused to leave his bedroom. Rhett never threw me out, but he chose to sleep on the couch and leave the bed to me.

And every night, I would sneak over to the couch and curl up against him in my sleep.

Every morning, he would push me away, get up, and leave.

Now that I looked back on it, everything about him had been quietly saying the same thing:

He didn’t want to be with me.

I had ignored all those details because I loved him too much.

No, because I had refused to admit the truth.

Maybe those servants‘ thoughts were right.

Maybe I really had just been flattering myself.

My tears kept falling until, at some point, I drifted off.

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself wrapped around Rhett’s waist, my cheek pressed tightly to his back.

His body was warm.

Safe.

I instinctively wanted to press closer- and then I remembered what I had heard the night before.

I immediately started pulling my face and arms back.

I needed to keep my distance from Rhett.

My cheek had already lifted away, and I was slowly withdrawing my arms- when someone suddenly grabbed one of them.

Rhett turned over slowly and fixed me with his gaze.

My movement must have woken him.

“What are you doing?”

His voice still carried that just–woken roughness.

I yanked my arm back and scrambled out of bed.

“N–nothing. You should get up and go deal with Pack business.”

Rhett looked at me, then silently got out of bed, dressed, and told the servants to tidy the room.

I didn’t dare look him in the eye, but I could tell from the way his pheromones were churning

that he was in a terrible mood.
