The Luna They Buried Too Soon Chapter 08

The Luna They Buried Too Soon Chapter 08

“Was it that car accident?” Atticus’s eyes turned blood red. He gritted his teeth, the words coming out through clenched teeth.

“She was pregnant! How dare you?”

Once he pieced everything together, he could barely contain his

rage.

“How could you be so cruel? She was pregnant, and she was never bad to you, right?”

“How could you be this evil?”

Atticus’s accusation snapped the last thread of Serena’s composure. She screamed back.

“Evil?”

“She never should’ve come back! None of this would’ve happened if she’d stayed gone!”

“She was just a lowly orphan from the orphanage, and I was the high and mighty Alpha princess of Duskhowl Pack, dreaming of bonding with you after we shifted!”

“Her arrival ruined everything!”

“Even her child deserved to die! What right did an orphan have to bond with you and have your baby?”

“That little bastard was just lucky to survive!”

Her words shattered any remaining illusions anyone had about her.

Cassian stood there, stunned, unable to believe his ears.

“Serena… how could you think that?”

“Is this who you really are? You never accepted Arabella, not even for a second?”

Serena, seeing Atticus’s shocked face, dropped her act entirely. She let out a cold snort.

“What’s up with the shocked look? Wasn’t it you who couldn’t resist temptation and slept with me?”

“You think you can wash your hands of this now?”

Atticus’s face turned ashen. He had no words to defend himself.

The officers had had enough of their bickering. They waved their hands, signaling to take Serena away.

“Take her.”

Atticus, humiliated by her outburst, made no move to stop them.

Elena suddenly stood up and clung to Atticus’s leg.

“Aunt Serena… doesn’t she like me anymore?”

“Why? She wanted to be my mommy, didn’t she?”

Atticus snapped. He pulled Elena off his leg and glared at her, his voice firm.

“You have only one mother. That’s Arabella.”

“No one else. Do you understand me?”

It was the first time Elena had seen Atticus so serious. She burst into tears.

“Wahhh! Daddy, I’m scared!”

Six years ago, I would’ve rushed to hug her and comfort her. But now, the maternal love in my heart had died

that rainy night long ago.

After ninety-nine days on my knees outside the estate, I heard my own daughter call another woman

“mommy.”

How tragic.

Atticus fell silent. Cassian, hit by two shocks in one day, was completely dumbfounded.

It didn’t take long for Serena to be sentenced to prison, with irrefutable evidence against her.

A few days later, the heavy rain that had lasted for days finally stopped. The sun emerged, bright and warm,

for the first time in ages.

I settled down at the orphanage, changed my name, and started teaching the kids how to paint.

This year’s full moon feast was surprisingly grand. We’d made a promise to meet at the orphanage every year, so my childhood friends from the orphanage had traveled from all over to be there.

Just as the feast was at its liveliest, Atticus arrived with Elena. Behind them were Cassian and my birth

parents, whom I hadn’t seen in years.

The second my orphanage friends saw them, they stepped forward, blocking the door.

“What are you doing here? You’re not welcome!”

The people at the door looked embarrassed and angry.

“We’re her family! Why can’t we come in?” my mother, the Luna snapped, annoyed.

My friends didn’t back down, speaking their minds without hesitation.

“Family? You’re not worth the dirt under her shoes!”

“Her family is us!”

“What kind of family kicks their own daughter out? What kind of family doesn’t even know their daughter has

cancer?”

“And when she came back to the pack, the first thing you did wasn’t to care about her. It was to clean up the fake daughter’s mess!”

Their words left the group red-faced and speechless.

In the end, they were all stuck outside the door.

I stood in the moonlight, my back to them. My love for them had died long ago, along with my old name.

But in the days to come, I would still find the courage to embrace love.
