The Luna They Buried Too Soon Chapter 05

The Luna They Buried Too Soon Chapter 05

“Can you believe how cruel some Alphas are? Not only did he throw his ex-Luna under the bus to take the

fall, but now that she’s dead, he won’t even answer our calls!”

A new female pack police officer stared at her phone, which had just gone to voicemail again, grumbling

under her breath.

Another older officer sitting beside her sighed heavily, sipping his coffee.

“Alphas, they’re the most confusing creatures you’ll ever meet.”

My heart dropped like a stone, confusion and fear twisting in my chest. I saw my own body covered in a

white sheet, yet I could feel my heart pounding. I even held up my hand, and my wolf claws came out. Vivian?

I could actually feel her life force flowing through me. For years, my heart had been as stagnant as a dead

pond, but now…

The older officer set down his coffee cup, took the phone from the young she-wolf cop, and dialed another

number.

“Forget it. Didn’t we find out she was from the orphanage?”

“If all else fails, call the orphanage headmistress.”

Two heavy sighs echoed through the office.

When I heard the headmistress’s name, a sharp pang of guilt hit me. She was already so old. I couldn’t bear

to think how shattered she’d be when she heard I was dead.

“No! Don’t call her! Please!”

I scrambled to stop them, but my outstretched hand was suddenly taken by a warm, gentle one. Stunned, I

slowly turned toward the hand and froze. Headmistress? Mom?

My eyes widened, and big, hot tears streamed down my cheeks.

“Headmistress Mom?”

She smiled softly. “Long time no see, my child.”

The tears felt like they were burning my heart. My eyes were red and puffy, my voice trembling as I asked,

“Am I… dead?”

“Of course not, sweetie. You’re my descendant.”

“You? You’re the Moon Goddess?”

Headmistress Mom nodded calmly.

“But…”

“You think I don’t look like a goddess? That I should be on an altar, wearing a fancy robe, glowing with divine light?”

I nodded dumbly, forgetting to cry.

She chuckled. “I’m here, my child. Right beside you. Whenever you’re in despair, I’m right here.”

“Oh, Officer Ethan. Was that suicide note she wrote in blood real?” The young she-wolf cop’s voice pulled my attention back.

“What’s going on?” I asked, confused.

“It’s the Moon Goddess’s magic.” Headmistress Mom said calmly. “It’s time for justice, my child.” Her eyes were still warm, but when they fell on my “body,” they turned icy cold.

It seemed they couldn’t see us at all.

The young female cop suddenly perked up, leaning over to ask the older officer beside her something. But he

scowled, snapping at her.

“Quit prying into everything.”

The young cop hung her head, muttering. “I’m just feeling bad for her, that’s all. She was so young.”

Another sigh filled the air.

“Don’t worry. The pack police have set up a task force to investigate this. We won’t let her die in vain.”

“Good.”

A few days later, Cassian suddenly showed up at the jail. He hadn’t been seen in ages.

“Where’s Arabella? Tell her to come out here and see me.”

He had no idea I was “dead.” His attitude was arrogant, his tone dripping with disdain. He probably thought

I’d been laying low these days to play hard to get, waiting for them to come beg me.

“Does she really think we owe her something just ’cause we locked her up for a few days?”

“Playing hard to get now? She’s got some nerve.”

Cassian’s face was twisted with his usual arrogance and contempt.

The police officers exchanged glances, unsure what to say. A long, awkward silence hung in the air. It was so

long that Cassian’s patience was wearing thin.

“Well? Where is she?”

“Aren’t you here ’cause she wanted us to come? Now that we’re here, she’s playing dumb?”

Cassian slammed his fist on the desk, roaring.

One of the officers hesitated for a moment before speaking up, his voice quiet.

“She’s dead.”
