The Love Missing From Summer Chapter 04

The Love Missing From Summer Chapter 04

Silas Whitcomb introduced himself as my boyfriend of four years.

I stared blankly at the messages flooding my phone.

Blood roared to my head.

I knew no one would believe me now.

Briar Sutton was sweet and popular.

Now everyone was speaking for her.

[I heard about this. I thought it was weird. How could Briar do something like that?]

[Wow. Tessa Calder really went too far if even her boyfriend couldn’t stand it and had to speak up for Briar…]

[It really is her boyfriend. Her pinned Instagram post is a photo of them together.]

[No wonder she resigned. Turns out she was guilty…]

Silas Whitcomb publicly defended Briar Sutton and stood on the opposite side from me.

This was the man I had loved for four years.

He had gone this far for Briar Sutton.

With trembling hands, I called Silas.

“Why would you do this? Why would you record that video?”

“Because Briar hasn’t been sleeping at night because of this.”

“Tessa Calder, when you’ve done something wrong, you should apologize. Besides, that poor girl was crying in front of me and couldn’t stop. I had no choice. I was just trying to comfort her for you.”

Silas softened his voice.

“Are you mad again? Tessa, let’s meet and talk properly.”

He sent me a restaurant address.

I went.

My emotions had taken over. I was almost out of my mind.

All I could think about was making Silas clarify the truth online.

And apologize to me publicly.

When I arrived at the restaurant, Silas was not there yet.

Minute by minute, time passed.

I finished my first glass of water.

Suddenly I remembered that this was the restaurant where Silas and I had officially gotten together.

Back then, he had promised me sincerely.

“Tessa Calder, don’t worry. I’ll be good to you for the rest of my life. I will always have your back.”

I tilted my head back and drank a second glass of water.

The anger in me slowly cooled.

I drank so many glasses of ice water I lost count.

Silas still did not come.

The restaurant was about to close.

I called Silas.

It rang for a long time before someone picked up.

“Tessa, what is it?”

It was Briar Sutton.

Her voice was smug and grating.

“Silas isn’t available. He spent the whole night with me.”

“He’s exhausted and asleep now. If you need something, you can tell me.”

I tightened my grip on the phone.

My mind became completely clear.

“I don’t need him. I actually have something to say to you.”

I gave a small laugh.

“Briar Sutton, you’re disgusting.”

“If you’re that desperate for trash, you can keep him.”

Then I hung up.

I was too tired to explain even one more sentence. I muted the coworker group chat immediately.

A lie could not become the truth.

This urgent proposal was scheduled to launch in ten days.

Briar Sutton had been allowed to take point on it.

When the time came, I wanted to see whether she could actually handle it.

I opened Instagram Stories and deleted every post related to Silas Whitcomb.

I had already settled things with my landlord about ending the lease.

I sent her a message letting her know I would be leaving early.

Then I went home, pulled out my suitcase, and headed to the airport.

I changed my flight to the earliest one home.

The moment I passed through security, my four-year relationship with Silas Whitcomb came to an end.

After the plane took off, I turned off my phone and slept.

Four hours later, I landed.

For the first time in days, my chest felt light.

But the moment I turned on my phone, it started vibrating nonstop.
