Nova couldn’t wait to leave this mess behind, but Caleb, who hadn’t interacted with her at all lately, suddenly spoke up, his tone mocking. “Nova, your taste is really going downhill. Did you pick him out just to be my replacement?”

Listening to Caleb’s arrogant declaration, Nova almost laughed out of sheer annoyance. “Caleb, you give yourself way too much credit.”

Caleb let out a cold scoff. “Before, you were always chasing after me, and now that you have a new toy, you’re using my full name. You flip-flop fast. But that’s fine, I was never going to like you anyway. Have fun playing your little romance games with this cheap knockoff.”

With that, Caleb grabbed Sylvie’s hand, ready to leave. From the other side of the pool, Nova suddenly shouted, “Stop right there!”

The command was loud and clear. Caleb turned around, staring at her with an icy smirk. “What? Are you going to explain that he isn’t your new toy, or try to convince me you two aren’t dating?”

Over the past few days, Caleb had noticed everything. Nova and Alaric were together every second they had free. If Nova hadn’t turned Alaric into his stand-in, why else would she suddenly be getting so close to him?

“I want you to apologize to Alaric. And while you’re at it, please drop the narcissism. Don’t think just because you’re the popular guy on campus, everyone has to revolve around you. Since I already broke off our engagement, it means I have absolutely no interest in you. I hope you can get that through your head.”
