Before I left the house, I demanded my son’s gold jewelry back from my mother–in–law. 

Julian didn’t stop me, but as I reached the door, he suddenly dropped to his knees. 

He gripped my hand, pleading piteously: 

“I really know I messed up. For our son’s sake, give me one 

last chance. Please.” 

I wrenched my hand away. 

His groveling, his kneeling, and his tears meant nothing to me 

but crocodile tears. 

“I’m letting you and Brooke be together. You should be happy.” 

“Now you don’t have to sneak around or be torn between two 

women.” 

He gripped my hand again, his bloodshot eyes full of a 

“sincere” desire for redemption. 

“I don’t want to lose this family. I don’t want to lose you.” 

“You are the most important person to me. I’ll really cut ties 

with her.” 

I sneered, pulled my hand away, and slapped him hard: 

“Julian, you’re disgusting!” “If you actually cared, you wouldn’t have hurt your partner like this!” A handprint 

appeared on his face as he stood there, stunned. 

I slammed the door and left. 

I went to our other property. 

This house was bought after our marriage. I had saved almost all the money Julian gave me. 

I earned about $20,000 a month myself through various 

sources. 

We had taken a mortgage on this house years ago and paid it 

off last year. 

We had planned to leave this house to our son. 

Now, it became the new home for me and my son. 

The next day, I realized I’d left my work laptop at the old 

house. 

When I went back to get it, I happened to overhear my mother–in–law talking to Julian: 

“Ellie isn’t coming back to you. It’s better to just get 

divorced.” 

“Brooke has a better temperament, and she’s lost both her parents, leaving her with a huge inheritance.” 

“They must have left her millions in a trust fund and real estate. If you marry her, all of that will be yours.” 

My father–in–law agreed: “Ellie only makes that small salary 

and she’s too assertive. Being with Brooke means you can live 

off her wealth.” 

Julian’s voice was listless: 

“If Ellie insists on a divorce, I guess I have no choice.” 

A mocking smile touched my lips. My heart was completely 

cold, but I didn’t feel much emotion. 

I had my lawyer discuss the divorce terms with Julian. 

We each took one house, and I got full custody of our son. 

I also took the liquid assets. 

He sent me many messages begging to reconcile, but I didn’t reply. 

Seeing I was resolute, he agreed to the divorce. 

A month later, we signed the papers. 

Brooke came to see me the day after the divorce was finalized. 

Just like me, she had lost a lot of weight over the past month. 

We had both been deeply scarred by this love triangle. 

Sitting across from me, she still seemed a bit timid, testing the 

waters: 

“Julian said you guys are divorced.” 

“Yes, it’s final. I have custody,” I said plainly, taking a sip of my coffee. 

A small smile appeared on her lips: 

“I’m so sorry for hurting you.” 

I was surprised by her second apology. 

She was a victim, too. 

“It wasn’t your fault. It was Julian’s. We aren’t the ones who 

did wrong.” 

I paused, then out of kindness, added: 

“I don’t know if you’re planning to stav with Julian.” 

“But before you decide, I hope you’ll listen to this.” 

I opened my phone and played a recording for her.
