Once we cleared everything up, I went right back to my old self.

“Honey! Hug me!”

“Baby! Kiss!”

A little while later, Damon took me to meet his cousin and her husband.

She’d grown up overseas, so I’d never met her before.

Her husband was naturally affectionate and greeted everyone with a hug.

The second he opened his arms for a hug, Damon stepped right in.

“I’ll take that hug, bro.”

While they were at it, his cousin pulled me aside.

“This is for you.”

She handed me a small gift box.

I opened it. Inside was an incredibly expensive necklace.

I immediately tried to hand it back.

“I can’t accept this.”

“Of course you can. You’re going to be our family.”

Before I could protest again, she fastened the necklace around my neck.

Then she gently pinched my cheek.

“Damon talks about you all the time.”

“I used to wonder what kind of girl could make him bring up the same person in every conversation.”

She leaned in and whispered, “Now I see why. I really like you too. Can we be friends, Nerissa?”

“I’d like that.”

She straightened up with a bright smile and held out her hand.

Tm Natalie. It’s nice to finally meet you.”

I took her hand with a smile. “Nerissa.”

The moment our hands touched-Damon’s voice exploded from across the room.
