I raised my hand. “I did.” 

The officer’s eyes swept the room, clearly registering the 

razor–wire tension. 

“You mentioned unlawful seizure of property. Can you tell me 

exactly what happened?” 

I pointed at Colton. No wasted words. “Him. The acting CEO of 

Apex Design Studio. He conspired with an outside party to illegally seize my majority stake, worth over seventy million dollars. And…” I glanced over, “…her too. His accomplice.” 

Brielle’s legs gave out. She crumpled to the floor. 

Colton was ashen, shaking so hard he looked barely held 

together. 

“No! I didn’t! This is slander! She’s slandering me!” His voice 

scraped out in a desperate shriek. 

The lead officer frowned and turned to me. “Ma’am, do you 

have evidence?” 

“Of course.” I nodded and pulled a small thumb drive from my 

pocket. I handed it over. 

“Three years of records. Off–the–books transfers. Falsified accounts. Attempts to quietly dilute my shares. Everything. It should be more than enough to put him away for a long time.” 

I watched the last flicker of light in Colton’s eyes die. 

He knew it was over. 

I didn’t look at him again. I turned to the two bewildered 

security guards. “Now. Would you please escort both of them out of my building?” 

The police led Colton and Brielle away. 

One was dragged out like he had no bones left, utterly limp. 

The other kept screaming, cursing me for being heartless, for ruining her. 

Every employee stood frozen, mute. Everyone watched this real–life drama unfold in stunned silence, their expressions ranging from shock to grim satisfaction. 

When the office doors finally shut and the noise outside faded, I turned back to the silent design department. 

My gaze moved across every face. 

The ones who’d smirked at me, who’d followed Brielle like 

loyal shadows–they couldn’t even lift their heads. 

The senior staff kept their eyes down, trying to shrink into the 

background. 

The silence was crushing. 

I knew I had to speak. 

“Effective immediately,” I said, my voice breaking through the quiet. “Colton Ashford and Brielle Sutton are no longer employed at Apex. I’m assuming full control of all operations 

until further notice.” 

I paused and looked at Diane, who had been with me since the startup days. “Diane. Company–wide announcement. And I 

want that ridiculous Employee Code of Conduct gone, effective 

immediately. I’m not running a company where people are 

scared to drink water at their own desks.” 

Diane’s eyes went red. She nodded hard. “Right away, Ms. Whitfield. I’ll handle it now.”
