“Call 911?” 

Colton let out a sharp, disbelieving laugh, like he couldn’t 

believe what he’d just heard. The initial shock broke into a 

hard, angry laugh. 

“Sloane, have you lost your mind? You’re calling the cops over an internal company dispute? You want Apex to become a laughingstock for the entire industry?” 

Brielle’s voice went shrill. “You have no right to call the police! 

You’re the one who should be hauled out of here. You’re 

making a false report!” 

I didn’t bother responding to their noise. My voice stayed calm 

and clear into the receiver. 

“Yes. I need to report an illegal takeover of private property. Value north of seventy million. The location is…” 

I recited the company address. 

Seventy million. 

The number landed, and the entire office plunged into a 

silence so complete it hurt. 

If anyone had still thought this was just an executive power squabble–a messy bit of office drama that illusion 

evaporated. 

Everyone understood now. This had rocketed past anything they’d imagined. 

All the blood drained from Colton’s face. 

His CEO composure shattered. Real, raw fear surfaced in his eyes for the first time. 

He stared at me, lips trembling. “You… what the hell are you talking about? What seventy million?” 

“Apex Design Studio,” I said, lowering the phone. My gaze turned to ice. “Three years back, we were valued near forty million. With everything we’ve built since, and those new contracts we just locked in, we’re sitting around a hundred 

million, easy.” 

“Conservative number. Seventy percent of that is mine. So you tell me, does that top seventy million?” 

I walked toward him, each step landing like a weight on his 

chest. 

“Colton, I handed you this company to run. Not to treat like your personal property. You used the CEO seat to install your people, silence anyone who pushed back, and roll out ridiculous new rules that made this place toxic. What was the endgame?” 

My voice sliced sharper. My gaze cut like a knife. 

“To sideline me, the majority shareholder. To chip away at my power until you could take the whole company for yourself. Legitimized. Clean. Wasn’t that the plan?” 

“That’s… you’re making this up! There’s no proof!“Cold sweat beaded on Colton’s forehead, but he was still clawing for 

footing. 

“Making up?” I gave a cold laugh and turned toward Brielle, who already looked like she might collapse. 

“Then explain to me why your so–called Ivy League star can’t 

even handle basic CAD shortcuts. Explain why her preliminary proposal for Westfield Development is ninety percent 

identical to a rejected draft I killed six months ago.” 

Brielle’s face went bloodless. She swayed on her feet. 

I didn’t waste another glance on her. My focus locked back 

onto Colton. 

“You thought you were being careful. You figured stepping back meant I went blind and deaf to what was happening 

under my own roof.” 

“Let me be clear, Colton, every brick in this building, every line of code, still has my name on it. You’re not half as clever as you convinced yourself you were.” 

I stopped right in front of him and dropped my voice so only he could hear. “I was going to let you keep some dignity. But you threw your last chance away.” 

“No… wait… Ms. Whitfield, let me explain…” 

Colton broke. The CEO mask shattered completely. His voice turned to something close to begging. 

The memory was finally hitting him. The woman standing in front of him in casual clothes, the one who’d been tucked away in the corner unnoticed, she was the real owner. The woman who’d built everything from nothing over ten years. A force he should never have tested. 

He was just someone I’d elevated. 

“Too late,” I said, ice–cold. 

A commotion stirred at the company entrance. 

Several uniformed police officers stepped inside. 

“Who called 911?”
