The Hairclip He Gave Me Was a Free Gift from Her Jewelry Spree Chapter 03

The computer in the study was mine.

But I almost never used it, so I had lent it to Sebastian.

His accounts were still logged in.

A girl saved as “Little Sister” sent him a message.

“Seb, thanks for the gold jewelry today. I love it.”

“And remember, you and Rhea are only pretending.”

“Don’t you dare fall for her. Don’t forget how she bullied me.”

I knew the other person was Charlotte.

But had I really bullied her?

During my freshman year, I found someone torturing cats in the alley behind the school.

A kitten struggled, crying like a baby.

I shone my flashlight over.

Charlotte jumped, and the knife in her hand clattered to the ground.

She explained she wanted to study medicine someday and was practicing dissection early.

In the mesh bag in the corner, there was also a pregnant tabby cat trapped inside.

I wanted to save the cats, but she blocked me.

The argument drew the attention of passing students.

Her animal cruelty was exposed and sparked public outrage.

But her family had money, so they quickly buried the story.

Time makes people forget a lot, including that.

But Charlotte never forgot me.

She and her friends put dead mice under my desk.

They put thumbtacks on my seat.

They threw my textbooks into the toilet.

She clung to me like a ghost.

I only got rid of her after I transferred schools.

A notification sounded, and Charlotte sent another message.

“Seb, wasn’t my knight-in-shining-armor plan great?”

“Has that idiot Rhea fallen head over heels for you yet?”

I paused.

The way Sebastian and I met really had come from a knight-in-shining-armor rescue.

When I was a junior, Charlotte came to my school as an exchange student.

She happened to join the same field project as me.

Our project site was in a rural village.

While collecting data in the mountains, my backpack was stolen, and I got lost.

A few locals followed me the whole way.

As it got dark, someone whistled, and the group surrounded me.

Terrified, I saw Sebastian suddenly appear and fight them.

As the mountain wind howled, he grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the mountains.

His leg was injured in the fight, so I took him to the hospital.

The doctor said his knee ligament was torn, with permanent damage.

Sebastian didn’t blame me. Instead, he looked at me and comforted me softly.

“Rhea, don’t blame yourself. This had nothing to do with you.”

His eyes were bright back then, and I still remember the look on his face when he said it.

That was the moment I fell for him.

After all, he was hurt because of me.

So I thought Sebastian would always have a get-out-of-jail-free card with me.

But the words on the screen were still moving.

“That idiot still doesn’t know you were never really hurt.”

“That private hospital is run by your family. You can get any diagnosis you want.”

The world spun.

So even that get-out-of-jail-free card

had been fake.
