The Hairclip He Gave Me Was a Free Gift from Her Jewelry Spree Chapter 01

Sebastian Shaw came from a poor family.

Since we started dating, I was the one who gave him gifts.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, I picked up a side job at a mall to buy him a suit.

Next door, at the jewelry store, a young couple came in.

The girl tugged at the man’s sleeve and cooed.

“Aren’t you going to break up with that poor thing yet? You can’t be serious about her, right?”

The man lowered his head and swiped his card, buying a dozen pieces of gold jewelry at once.

“Didn’t you tell me to chase her, make her fall hard for me, and then dump her?”

“The game’s only halfway through. What’s the rush?”

I stood frozen.

The girl was someone who had bullied me in high school.

And the man beside her was Sebastian Shaw.

When I first met Sebastian, I barely recognized him.

He was wearing a designer shirt and a luxury watch.

But the person in my memory always wore faded blue jeans.

He would even hesitate for ages over a $5 bubble tea.

Last time I passed this jewelry store, I was drawn to a pendant in the window and stared at it for half a minute.

Sebastian looked at me guiltily.

“Rhea, I’m sorry I don’t have the money to buy these yet.”

“But wait. I’ll save up, and one day I’ll buy you something worthy of you.”

Sebastian came from a poor rural county and lived on financial aid.

I knew life wasn’t easy for him.

So I pulled him away from the window.

“It doesn’t have to be gold.”

I took him to a corner store on the old street and pointed at the plastic hair clips on the shelf.

“This one’s nice. Get me this.”

It was a $2 clip, and he could afford it.

His eyes flickered, and he bent down to press a kiss to my forehead.

“Rhea, being with me means a hard life for you.”

But this same poor Sebastian was now toying with a card.

Beside him, Charlotte was trying on seven or eight bracelets.

He smiled, his tone careless.

“Can’t decide? Just buy them all.”

He also bought every necklace Charlotte had tried on.

The clerk swiped the card. “That comes to $660,000.”

$660,000.

I froze.

It was ten times the betrothal gift he had once promised me.
