The Gamma’s Regret Chapter 06

The Gamma’s Regret Chapter 06

To thank my friends for having my back, I took them out to dinner.

We’d barely sat down when Mia showed up with her boyfriend.

She spotted me and immediately latched onto her boyfriend’s arm. She sauntered over, dripping with

contempt. Her voice could cut glass.

“Look at the old hag, living it up. Doesn’t give a damn about us while she’s in here stuffing her face. What a

joke of a mother.”

She plopped down at the table next to us and made a show of shouting, “Waiter! Bring us the most expensive

dishes and your best wine. All of it!”

Soon their table overflowed. King crab. Truffles. Caviar. Imported steaks.

I ignored her completely. Laughed and chatted with my friends.

When the bill came, the server approached me respectfully.

“Ma’am, your table plus the one next to you comes to eighty-three thousand nine hundred dollars.”

I frowned. “I don’t know them. I’m only paying for my own meal.”

“But the young lady said you were treating her…”

“She’s trying to dine and dash. I suggest you stop her now. If she slips out, that’s on you.”

The server’s face went pale. He bolted toward the door.

Mia and her boyfriend got stopped at the exit. Humiliated in public. Completely exposed. She shot me a look

that could kill.

I didn’t even glance her way. Just turned and left.

In my past life, I pitied her. Went to her apartment every week. Cleaned. Cooked. Tidied up. Gave her means.

She took it all for granted. Behind my back, she laughed with her friends. “Just knowing that old woman’s kidney is inside me makes me sick. I’m terrified her inferior genes are contaminating me.”

She found me so disgusting. So embarrassing. Fine. I’d grant her wish.

Let her go claim that young, pretty, elite Clara as her mother.

A few days later, someone sent me a screenshot of Mia’s Instagram. The photo showed Mia hanging off Clara’s arm. The two of them loaded down with luxury shopping bags.

The caption read: [Shopping spree with my gorgeous new mom!]

[Keep being jealous, you old ugly hag!]

I stared at the screen and felt nothing.

I’d stopped caring a long time ago.

Life was quiet. Happy.

Arthur texted and called sometimes. Checking in. Apologizing. Saying he missed me.

I never replied. Never picked up.

He wanted love. Freedom. Clara. I gave him what he wanted.

His fake sentiment now just made me sick.

A few months passed.

My phone rang. Mia. Sobbing so hard she could barely breathe. “Mom! Dad got in a car crash! It’s really bad!

Come to the hospital now!”

A car crash?

In my past life, Arthur heard Clara bonded with another wolf. Lost focus. Drove straight into a tree. Paralyzed

from the neck down. Bedridden for life.

I thought letting him go this time would change that.

Guess not.

I hung up. Did my makeup. Went to play cards with my friends.

We were unbonded. His life or death was none of my business.

The law didn’t say I had to nurse my former mate.

For days, Jack, Mia, even distant relatives blew up my phone with calls and texts. I blocked every single one.

I was coming back from the farmers’ market, arms full of groceries. Just as I reached the estate gate, Jack

lunged out and grabbed me.

My bags hit the ground. Produce scattered everywhere.

“Mom! Are you insane?! That’s my dad! He’s paralyzed! He needs you!”

“You’re coming back with me! Taking care of him!”

I shook him off cold. “Go find Clara. We’re not bonded anymore.”

“We’re not bonded, but he’s still Dad! If not for me, then do it for Mia!”

When force failed, Jack switched to pathetic. He pulled out every guilt trip he had.

“Dad kept calling your name when he was unconscious. He still cares about you! We’ve been a mess without

you here… Mom, please come back. We need you.”

I laughed. Bitter. Mirthless. “Need me? Need me to be your workhorse again? Your unpaid servant? To wait on all of you hand and foot?”

Jack’s face went slack.

“Jack, search what’s left of your conscience. You watched your father toss me aside for another woman.

You called me nothing but a free unpaid servant behind my back. You and Mia shoved me into traffic to save

her. And now you stand here talking about family?”

Jack had nothing. His face was sheet-white. Then his expression hardened. He grabbed my arm again and

tried to drag me toward the car. “No! You’re coming with me today! Someone has to take care of Dad!”

That’s when the estate gates thundered open.

A dozen heavily armed wolves marched out in perfect formation. Their Alpha aura crushed the air. They

surrounded Jack in seconds.

Jack had never faced anything like it. His knees buckled. His face went gray.

The captain of the guard stepped forward and bowed to me with deep respect. “Your Highness. Please go

inside. We shall handle the remainder.”

I nodded. Without a single glance back at Jack-who stood frozen in shock and terror-I turned and walked

through the gates.
