“You mean Elowen?”

Mom and Dad exchanged a confused glance.

Even if Elowen had outperformed herself on the test, reporters wouldn’t come knocking like this.

The reporters smiled and explained. “Haven’t you checked the Werewolf SAT scores yet?”

“Your daughter got the highest score in the Northern Territory this year.”

Elowen shot up from the sofa.

Her eyes widened, caught between disbelief and dawning delight.

“That can’t be right. Did you mix us up?”

“Oh! I know. You must be here to interview Lucian.”

She ran to the door across the hall and banged on it.

“Lucian, reporters are here to interview you!”

Her shout brought Lucian to the door. Several nearby pack families also stepped out to watch.

Lucian opened his door, looking stunned.

“Interview me? That can’t be. Scores came out this morning. I didn’t do that well. What about you?”

Elowen frowned in confusion. “I haven’t checked my scores yet. I was going to after breakfast…”

She turned to the reporters. “Are you sure it’s me?”

The reporters pulled out a photo. “Take a look. Isn’t this you?”

The girl in the photo had the same pale golden hair and blue eyes as her.

A fleeting doubt surfaced in Elowen’s mind.

But excitement quickly drowned it out.

She didn’t think of me at all.

Mom walked over, her face breaking into a wide smile.

“She only said she thought the test went well. I had no idea she’d kept this secret.”

Dad laughed loudly and clapped Elowen on the shoulder.

“Incredible job, sweetheart. You’ve made the Hawthorne family so proud!”

“Come in, everyone, please.”

Elowen hurried to the computer and pulled up the Werewolf SAT results page.

After the reporters stepped inside, Dad deliberately propped the front door wide open.

Neighbors stood on the porch, showering her with compliments.

“She doesn’t even need to check–she got early acceptance!”

“The Hawthornes really raised a prodigy.”

“Don’t they have another twin daughter?”

Elowen’s hand on the mouse froze at the words.

“Mom, should we call Freya out to see this too?”

Mom nodded and walked to my door, knocking.

No answer.

Kael said, “Mom, Freya’s probably gone to work.”

Mom sighed.

Noticing the reporters watching her, she explained.

“You may not know. We have two daughters.”

“Our younger daughter took her sister’s money. We said a few things to her, and she got upset and went to work to pay it back.”

Elowen grabbed Mom’s arm at once.

“Mom, don’t say it like that. If Freya had just asked me first, I would’ve given it to her.”

“I’m not mad at her at all.”

Kael defended Elowen. “Only you’d still stick up for her.”

“Remember when you were little? Because of her, you almost never came home.”

The reporters leaned in. “Could you tell us more about that?”

In front of the cameras—and soon, the entire online audience–they spun the whole story.

How I’d faked fainting on purpose, making Elowen run off and get kidnapped.

The onlookers nodded and murmured. “Sounds like the younger one’s a real piece of work.

Mom wiped away a tear. “Truth be told, we’re partly to blame.”

“We should have treated both girls equally.”

Elowen squeezed Mom’s hand, putting on a show of mature understanding. “Mom, I’ve never blamed you.”

Someone called out suddenly, “Look! The scores loaded!”
