The Forgotten Twin Princess Found Her True Pack Chapter 08

The Forgotten Twin Princess Found Her True Pack Chapter 08

Alpha Father had sent only one message.

[I made you two new redwood chests. Come pick them up when you’re back.]

He’d always been a man of few words. Whenever conflict erupted, he only ever stepped in at the end to

deliver the final verdict.

Like a judge.

Except I was always the one who lost the case.

I stopped reading the messages but didn’t block any of them.

I hadn’t figured out how to face them yet.

On my birthday, Morgan’s mother ordered a big cake.

Written across the top: [Luna Vanessa, Forever18]

She prepared a whole table of dishes, and when I tried to bring the servants into the kitchen to help, she

shooed me right back out.

“Today you’re the star. You don’t lift a finger.”

I sat on the couch, a little dazed.

Every birthday I’d shared with Leona, the cake had only ever had her name on it. Because she’d thrown a

tantrum once, saying she didn’t want my name there.

This was the first time I got to make a wish on my own.

After I made my wish, I called Elsa over to blow out the candles with me.

Elsa, usually all bounce and energy, suddenly turned serious. “No way. This is your birthday wish. You have

to do it yourself.”

“All I want is a big slice of cake.”

Everyone laughed.

I ate several slices. It wasn’t my first time having birthday cake.

But this one tasted sweeter than any I’d ever had.

About two weeks later, I had just walked out of Ironclaw Pack’s council hall when I spotted Killian standing

at the entrance.

The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up.

One of the pack guards leaned over. “Luna, he’s been waiting here all afternoon. Be careful.”

I smiled and thanked him

Killian took several steps toward me, but when he got close, he stopped.

“Vanessa, I searched for so long. How did you end up in a pack this far away?”

“Leona gets talked about by the pack members every day.’

“Mom worries about you constantly.”

“Dad’s been sitting alone in the courtyard smoking. Even if you’re angry, you can’t just disappear like this!”

He spoke fast and frantic. I sighed and cut him off.

“Did you come all this way just to guilt-trip me?”

He stopped cold. The look in his eyes turned lost.

“Don’t you want to ask how I’ve been?”

He went silent, suddenly unsure what to do with his hands.

“I…”

“See? I’ve been gone all this time, and the first things out of your mouth are about Mom, Dad, and Leona.”

“If you were me, can you honestly say you wouldn’t have left?”

The color drained from his face.

It was a long time before he managed to speak. “Of course we’ve been worried about you too…”

“But you’re more worried about Leona. Aren’t you?”

“I didn’t leave because I was angry. I left because I wanted a life of my own.”

“I was tired of being her backdrop.”

He lowered his head, guilt written across every line of his face. “I’m sorry.”

I gave him a faint smile. “You didn’t do anything wrong. You just love Leona more.”

“It’s just that I didn’t do anything wrong either.”

His voice dropped even quieter. “Vanessa, we really do regret everything.”

My expression didn’t change at all.

“But I don’t.

“Go home, Killian. I’m doing well here.

When he walked away that day, his back was hunched, like all the air had been let out of him.
