The Female Hybrid Everyone Hated Chapter 05

The Female Hybrid Everyone Hated Chapter 05

The voice cracked through the woods like a whip.

The light died instantly. The pulling sensation vanished. Brian screamed like a small animal and stumbled backwards out of the circle, crashing into the undergrowth.

1 spun around.

Aldric stood at the tree line.

He was exactly as I remembered him — tall, unhurried, the kind of stillness that didn’t come from calm but from absolute control. His warlock robes were dark, his eyes darker. He looked at the rituai circle, at Brian half collapsed in the bushes, and then finally at me.

His expression gave away nothing.

“Disperse,” he said simply. One word. The ritual circle cracked apart like ice and dissolved into the ground

“NO-“I turned on him furiously. “What do you think you’re doing-”

But Brian was already running.

I spun around just in time to see him sprinting through the trees, robes flapping, abandoning me without a single backwards glance.

“BRIAN GET OVER HERE!”

Brian was fast for a coward but I was a hybrid. I caught up to him in seconds, grabbed him by the back of his robes and swung him bodily into the nearest tree trunk. He yelped on impact.

“You – you can’t just – he was right there!” Brian wheezed, pointing frantically back toward where we came

from.

“YOU BETRAYED ME AND CALLED HIM?”

“That was Aldric! THE Aldric! Do you know who that is?! I’m not going back there-”

“You’re going back there.”

“He’ll turn me into something! He’ll curse my entire bloodline-”

My eyes shifted gold. The hybrid light hit him full in the face and Brian made a sound I had never heard a grown man make before.

“We are going back Brian,” I said pleasantly. “Move.”

I tightened my grip on Brian’s collar and marched him forward.

He had sent Aldric the distress signal. I knew it the moment I saw Aldric appear too quickly, too precisely, with too much purpose. Brian had betrayed me the moment my back was turned.

When we broke back through the tree line Aldric was still standing exactly where we had left him, hands

clasped behind his back, watching us emerge from the woods with the expression of a man who had seen considerably stranger things and was mildly inconvenienced by all of them.

Brian pointed at him with a shaking finger. “He made me do it. The signal. It wasn’t my idea-”

I’ll pardon you for calling me. Now home, Brian,” Aldric said without looking at him. He stretched his hand and cast a spell that created a smokescreen around Brian that swallowed him whole right in front of me before I could move.

I tried using my senses to track him but hit a wall immediately.

“Don’t bother. I dulled your senses,” Aldric said.

And that was how I lost Brian.

Fuck!!!

I stood in the ruined remains of my ritual circle and stared at Aldric, squeezing my fist.

“You had no right Aldric,” I spat out with anger.

“You were performing a binding reversal in the middle of the woods at dawn to commit suicide.” He looked at me steadily. “With Brian.”

I’m aware. That’s my business.”

“Do you want to die?”

“Yes.”

“Why.”

the

I stared at him. The nerve of that question sitting so plainly in his mouth, from him of all people man who had held Rose while she cried, who had screamed at me with bloodshot eyes, who had called my pain fake and my grief manipulation and told me to get out.

“You don’t get to ask me that,” I said quietly.

“Yara, are you insane, what is going on with you?!”

The warlock in front of me was Aldric. A great healing warlock, one of the most respected in the territory. He was eight years older than me.

He was another one I had tried to win over. He

Back when my hybrid nature began to destabilize when the soul-fade started pulling me under and no one could explain why he was the one assigned to treat me. Claire had told me to go after him. So I did. I spent so much time being good to him.

We shared meals in the healers quarter together. We studied ancient spell work side by side. We rode out to the far meadows when he needed to gather rare herbs and I kept him company without being asked.

He even took me to visit his grandmother – a retired healing witch who lived alone in the old Vorne family kept at the edge of the territory.

He said I was the first person he had ever brought there.

His affection for me was rising – fast.

I thought for sure this time would work.

Then Rose showed up again.

She came to his healing quarters weeping, barely able to stand, and said – “Aldric, Yara hired a rogue to assault, rape me and almost kill me, because she was jealous Dorian loves me instead of her I can’t sleep. I keep seeing them in my dreams, I had barely escaped. I want to die.”

And Aldric held her in his arms.

“Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

That same day he screamed at me with bloodshot eyes. Told me to get out. He said I was stable, that my condition was fabricated, that I was manipulating him, that I was disgusting.

And just like that, my mission failed again.
