The Female Hybrid Everyone Hated Chapter 04

The Female Hybrid Everyone Hated Chapter 04

In twenty five years in this world I had met with a lot of witches and warlocks, but the powerful ones were the most troublesome ones and that would give me an issue. And having issues wasn’t part of my plan.

There was one warlock who came into mind and that was Brian. He was powerful and he was known in the higher quarters of the territory as the kind of man who made powerful enchantments but sold dubious potions to people too desperate to ask questions.

He was also known for being a spectacular cowἅrd, which is why I chose him. Although being a powerful warlock he was important, but still he was more controllable than others. Brian would just do what he was told if I scared him enough.

It wasn’t hard to find him because I asked around and some approached me and told me his location. Then I found him in his little shop just before dawn, counting coins from his chest. Like I said, his love for money was way over the bar, and I had just the money for it.

I stepped out of the shadows holding a sack of coins and then I tossed it to him. Brian immediately reacted, stretching his hand as he made the sack float in the air and then he dragged it closer to him.

“That’s your payment. It’s way more than you can imagine.”

And why was that? Because that was all the money I had made in this world. It was quite a lot and I needed to bribe him real good.

Brian’s eyes calmed. He looked serious as his fingers were clasped together.

Then I spoke. “I need a binding reversal spell. On a hybrid,” I said, and just like that he lost his composure.

The coins dropped.

“What? A binding reversal spell?” He scrambled to his feet, knocking over his stool as he started packing up his chest and locking it. Then he snapped his hand and the chest vanished. He was really panicking now. “That’s a forbidden ritual! Wait — who are you and how did you even find me? Not many people know where I am.”

I stepped closer. This time my eyes glowed gold and my fangs extended.

“I am the hybrid,” I said in a deep voice and the colour drained from his face completely. “I need you to perform it. On me. Tonight.”

“Absolutely not.” He started backing away immediately, hands up. “No no no no — do you have any idea what that ritual does? It will dissolve your soul entirely. There’s no coming back from that, no reversal—”

“What?” I said.

Oh.

Now that was new information. Claire had given me quite a different definition of what a binding reversal spell was.

*Claire. You lied.

*”Well, I won’t say I lied, but I did not exactly say the full truth. Once you become human your soul then dissolves entirely. Painfully.”

*Fʊck you Claire. You couldn’t have said that?

*”What’s the deal? You’re going to go with it either way. I just wanted it to be a surprise and see you scream. That would have been nice. But that cowἅrd ruined it.”

“It seems you are not aware,” Brian continued, still backing away. “Even as a hybrid you are going to d!e. Painfully.”

“That’s the point.”

“You — you want to d!e?!” He looked genuinely horrified. More horrified than I expected from a man who sold illegal enchantments for a living. “No. I won’t do it. I refuse. Whatever you’re going through — life is worth so much more than this! You’re a hybrid — do you know how rare that is? There are people who would give anything to—”

“Brian.”

“—have even a fraction of the power you carry naturally and you want to just throw it away because of what? A bad week? A bad year? Whatever it is it can get better, these things always—”

“Brian.” I grabbed him by the collar of his robes. “Do it. Or I will tell every warlock council in this territory that you’ve been selling unlicensed blo0d enchantments out of your back room for the past six years.”

“No one will believe you.”

“Do I have proof? Don’t be ridiculous. You have a storage warehouse at the end of your farm.” I held his gaze steadily. “And how do I know that? Because I spent two harvest seasons working the outer borders of this territory. Every trader, every merchant, every back road supplier passed through those posts. People talk Brian. Especially about where the good illegal stock is kept.”

He went completely silent.

His mouth opened. Closed. It opened again.

“…Where do you want to do this,” he said weakly.

…..

I took him to the far end of the Ashburn woods — deep enough that no one would sense the magic until it was too late. Brian set up the ritual circle with trembling hands, muttering under his breath the entire time. Half prayer, half complaints.

“This is wrong,” he kept saying. “This is deeply, morally wrong.”

“Draw the circle, Brian.”

“For the record I protested this. I was forced and threatened to do this.”

“Whatever, noted. Draw the circle.”

*”I like him,”* Claire said in my head.

*Shut up Claire.

The ritual circle glowed a cold pale blue as Brian completed the final sigil. He stood at the edge of it, chalk still in his shaking hand, looking at me with genuinely miserable eyes.

“Once again, are you absolutely sure,” he said quietly. It wasn’t a warlock’s question. It was just a person asking another person.

I stepped into the circle confidently.

“Begin.”

Brian closed his eyes. His lips started moving. The pale blue light began to pulse — slowly at first then faster, climbing up around my ankles like cold water rising.

I felt it immediately. A deep, strange pulling sensation in my chest — like something was reaching in and finding the two separate threads of what I was. Wolf. Vampire. The two things that had made me an outcast in every room I had ever walked into. I felt them being found, being gripped—

The burning sensation hit me immediately inwardly. My body struggled instinctively, but I fought to stay silent. I didn’t want anyone to hear.

Oh, and I’d left a note behind:

“Don’t be scared. I’ve turned into a star in the sky now.”

My consciousness began to fade.

As deἅth approached, my life flashed before my eyes.

No matter how hard I tried, Rose always took everything away from me.

Everyone loved her. No one loved me.

Just when I thought it was over, someone interrupted it.

“STOP!!!.”
