The Don’s Throwaway Wife Chapter 07

The Don’s Throwaway Wife Chapter 07

I woke up in the hospital two days after New Year’s.

Luca hadn’t left my bedside, his eyes bloodshot and lined with dark exhaustion.

My throat was raw and scratchy when I spoke.

“Luca… I’m sorry I dragged you out here, ruined your holiday.”

He brushed strands of hair off my face, his eyes glistening.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Seeing you alive is the best year I’ve ever had.”

Years ago, I’d cut ties with the entire Moretti Family to run off and marry Dante.

Even Luca, who’d never denied me a single thing, had begged me not to go.

I’d ignored him, sneaking away in the middle of the night with Dante.

“How are Mom and Dad?” I whispered quietly.

“Not great,” he feigned a frown to lighten the mood, tapping the tip of my nose. “They think about you every single day.”

He nodded toward his phone. “Wanna see what I did to him?”

I took the device from his hand.

The screen showed Dante pinned between two of Luca’s men, his face pale and terrified.

“Luca… what are you doing here?”

Luca stood slow, towering over him, every inch the enforcer.

He drove a fist straight into Dante’s stomach.

“Where else would I be, after seeing how you treated Elara?”

Another punch. Then another.

Dante crumpled to the ground, barely conscious.

Mia let out a shrill scream.

Luca’s gaze snapped to her, eyes narrowed cold.

“Wait a minute. I recognize all this stuff. Elara’s dresses. Her jewelry. Her bag.”

“You think the Morettis are dead and gone, Maranzano? Letting some club girl parade around wi everything that belongs to her?”

He grabbed Dante by the collar and struck him twice across the face.

Dante coughed up blood, gasping for air.

“Luca! You’ve got this all wrong! Elara didn’t want any of it anymore! I gave it to Mia so nothing

would go to waste!”

Luca let out a bitter laugh.

“Don’t call me Luca. You don’t deserve that privilege.”

“If she didn’t want those things, why did I find her half-frozen on the street without a single coat

on her back?”

His voice cracked with fury.

“I handed Elara over to you to protect, not destroy. Every person in the borough’s laughing at her

expense!”

Dante tried to argue back.

“No one’s mocking her! You’re making this all up!”

Luca tossed a stack of newspapers directly into his face.

My name blared across every front page.

Dante’s face drained of all color, silent at last.

Luca grabbed him by the hair and forced his head up.

“My lawyers will be in touch. Elara’s leaving you, and you’re never allowed near her again.”

He turned and walked out of the room.

We’d locked every door to the private suite first.

His men stayed behind and snapped his leg, no outsiders around to witness a thing.

The cops owe our family too many favors to poke their noses in clan disputes.

A hoarse scream echoed through the hallway.

Luca glanced back at me, sadness melting away into quiet pride.

“Feeling any better now?”

A burning ache stung my nose. No one had ever stood up for me like this in years.

“Yeah,” I whispered. “Thank you, Luca.”

Snow still fell outside the window, but for the first time in forever, I felt warm all the way through.

Once this was all over, I’d never step foot in this frozen city again.
