The Don’s Rejected Wife Chapter 05

The Don’s Rejected Wife Chapter 05

“Call 911! The top floor is on fire!”

The hospital erupted into chaos.

Luca froze mid-step as the realization slammed into him.

Stella’s mother was in that VIP room.

“I’m going up.”

He charged toward the stairs, but his bodyguards stopped him.

“Don, the elevators are down. The east wing exploded.”

Marco tried to push past the bodyguards, tears streaming down his face. “Grandma! I want Grandma!”

Luca forced himself to stay calm, but something had clamped around his chest and wouldn’t let go.

Minutes later, the fire department arrived.

Luca grabbed the fire chief by the arm.

“My mother-in-law is upstairs. She’s paralyzed. Get her out.”

The chief didn’t waste time answering. He rushed past him with the hose team.

Nearby, a janitor muttered under his breath, “That poor woman in the VIP room… first her account gets frozen, and now there’s a fire? Sounds like somebody really wanted her dead.”

Luca’s brow tightened.

“Frozen? I paid the bill today.”

A young nurse recognized him and hesitated.

“Don Romano, the payment did come through. But the account was frozen right after.”

He froze.

Marco’s eyes widened.

“Who froze Grandma’s money?”

At the same time, the same image flashed through both their minds.

Stella, drenched in sweat and shaking with desperation, clutching that card and screaming about the account.

Luca’s heart dropped.

He immediately called her.

“Marco,” he said hoarsely, “when your mom answers, apologize to her. We’ll wait for her here.”

Marco nodded.

But the phone only rang and rang. No one picked up.

“Dad, why isn’t Mom answering?”

Luca’s breath caught. He called again immediately, but this time, the line didn’t even ring.

It went straight to voicemail.

A nurse nearby heard them and spoke up, confused.

“Mrs. Romano went upstairs too. She hasn’t come back down…”

Luca and Marco looked at each other. All the color drained from their faces.

Marco burst into tears.

“Mom and Grandma are both up there! I want them alive!”

Just then, a firefighter came down the stairs and looked around the lobby.

“We found a body in the room,” he said. “You can come identify it now.”
