The Don’s Rejected Wife Chapter 02

The Don’s Rejected Wife Chapter 02

On the screen, Isabella’s eyes lit up. Then, in the next breath, she forced out tears.

“Mrs. Romano, are you doing this because of me?”

Her voice trembled perfectly. “I shouldn’t have come over. If I upset you, I’m sorry.”

She ended the call before anyone could answer.

Marco exploded at once.

“Mom, you’re impossible! You made Bella cry!”

Luca pressed his fingers to his temple, irritation flashing across his face.

“Stella, how far are you planning to take this? Stop playing games.”

For years, the two of them had always stood together to protect Isabella.

The last time they had stood up for me felt like a lifetime ago.

I looked at him calmly.

“I’m not playing games. I want a divorce.”

“Fine.”

Luca let out a cold laugh, pulled out a pen, and signed his name across the papers without even reading them.

“Cute. But the second you walk out of this house, you walk away from every Romano dollar.”

He tossed the papers back at me.

“Everything goes to Isabella. She’s more useful to this family than you’ve ever been.”

He turned away.

“Let’s go.”

Luca took Marco by the hand and left.

Marco glanced back and stuck out his tongue.

“We’re going to Bella’s birthday party!”

The door slammed behind them.

Luca knew exactly what cutting me off meant. I had no private fortune, no hidden account, no safety net. Every dollar I managed to keep went straight to the facility keeping my mother alive.

She had ended up there because of him.

When Luca’s name was dragged into yet another cheating scandal, my mother came through the pouring rain to comfort me. A truck hydroplaned, lost control, and struck her before she ever reached me.

She never woke up again. Machines breathed for her. Machines kept her heart beating.

Back then, Luca and Marco held me like I was made of glass.

“Mom, when is Grandma going to wake up?”

“Stella, we’re here. We’re not leaving you.”

Back then, they still loved me.

Now, they had rushed to Isabella’s side.

That same night, Luca released a statement.

Every Romano family account would now be controlled by Isabella Rossi.

Without her approval, I couldn’t even buy a cup of coffee.

And tomorrow, her birthday party would take over the ballroom at the Roosevelt Hotel.

He wanted the whole city to see exactly what happened when someone crossed the Romano family.

They lost everything.

My throat still burned from whatever Luca had sprayed on me in the bathroom. By the time I crawled into bed, fever was already crawling under my skin.

I was drifting in and out of sleep when an anonymous video landed on my phone.

In the video, Isabella stood soaked from head to toe, arms wrapped around herself, every inch the victim.

“I was driving home when Mrs. Romano’s mother suddenly ran toward my car.”

Her voice shook.

“She screamed at me to get out of Stella’s life. I tried to swerve. I swear I tried, but the road was too slick.”

She covered her face and sobbed.

“I never meant for this to happen.”

Then Marco appeared in the frame. He rushed at her and started hitting her.

“You hurt Grandma! Give her back! I want Grandma back!”

Isabella took every blow in silence. Tears streamed down her face as she looked at Luca.

“Luca… you won’t abandon me, will you?”

My chest tightened.

For a moment, time seemed to freeze.

Then Luca stepped forward and slid a brand-new ID across the table.

“From now on, your name is Isabella Rossi.”

His voice was flat and final.

“I’ll take care of the rest.”
