“I-I sent it…”

“You still dare lie to me!”

Damian spun around and slapped Serena hard across the face.

If he hadn’t gone to the hospital and found out the truth, he’d still be trapped in this woman’s web

of lies.

Serena stumbled and fell to her knees, disheveled. “I didn’t! Who did you listen to-what did they tell you…”

“You fucking bitch, you lied to me and told the hospital to cremate my mother-in-law. You really

deserve to die!”

Damian grabbed Serena by the collar, his face twisted with malice. “If anything happens to Scarlett,

I will fucking kill you.”

“Don, someone dropped off a package for you.

A maid held out an envelope to Damian.

Vincent Sterling’s name was printed clearly across the front-the FBI agent who’d been his

archenemy and hunted him for over a decade.

“What the hell would he send me? What trick is he playing?”

Damian frowned, tore open the envelope, and pulled out the papers inside.

It was a divorce agreement.

Scarlett’s signature was already on the bottom line.

He squinted and read the agreement over and over, his gaze shifting from confusion to shock to

blind panic.

Scarlett actually wanted to divorce him? How could this be real?

Just the thought made his throat feel clamped shut, like he couldn’t breathe.

“Damian, where are you going? Let me explain!”

Ignoring Serena’s desperate pleas, Damian drove straight to Vincent’s house.

At that moment, I’d just gotten back from giving a statement to Vincent.

Damian rushed over and blocked my path.

“Scarlett, why are you with him? Do you even know who he is!”

I glanced at Vincent standing beside me. He wore a perfectly tailored suit and dark sunglasses, an

effortless cockiness radiating off him.

He didn’t look like a cop.

Of course I knew who he was-he was Damian’s mortal enemy.

Vincent pulled me behind him, and stared down at Damian.

“Mr. Moretti, I believe you already received the divorce agreement I had delivered.

“This is Miss Scarlett’s request. If you have any questions, you can contact my lawyer.”

With that, he turned to lead me away.

Damian quickly grabbed my arm. Those eyes that had once captivated me were now brimming with desperate hurt.

“Scarlett, why do you want to divorce me? What did I do wrong?”

He stepped forward and wrapped me in a tight hug.

Hot tears soaked through the fabric of my shoulder.

“Scarlett, I know what happened to your mom. I’m devastated too. I’ll be there for you from now on,

I promise.”

Looking at him like this, I felt nothing.

I reached out and pushed him away.

“If you hadn’t cut off my mom’s treatment, she’d still be alive, Damian. Do you really think there’s

any chance left for us?

“After the divorce, we won’t have to torture each other anymore. You can go live happily with

Serena now.”

Ten years of marriage had worn every last bit of my spirit down to nothing.

I couldn’t deny that the Moretti family had helped me a lot years ago.

But after ten years of devotion and giving, I’d long since paid that debt back in full.

He stared hard into my eyes, trying to find a trace of reluctance, but the eyes that had once been full

of love for him were now as calm as a still pool of dead water.

“Scarlett, I beg you, don’t say this. I’ve only ever loved you. You know Serena was just a fling, that’s

all.

“Sex and love aren’t the same thing. You’ll always be my Donna. No one can ever change that.”

Looking at how panicked he was, I felt a strange daze.

I vaguely remembered that this was exactly what he’d said the first time I caught him cheating.

When I saw the naked woman in our bed, I screamed and raged and fell apart.

But Damian had just looked at me with cold indifference. “Scarlett, it’s normal for a powerful man

to have more than one woman. If you want to be the Mafia Don’s wife, you have to be able to tolerate

it.”
