The Don’s Dead Bride Chapter 10

The Don’s Dead Bride Chapter 10

I didn’t back away. Instead, I met his gaze and smiled. “What makes you say that, Don Luca?”

“Instinct? Or the fact that I look like your dead sister?”

Luca grabbed my shoulders and pushed me back against the bookshelf.

“Feel.”

His hands cupped my face, his fingertips trembling.

“There aren’t two identical leaves in this world.”

“The way you look at me, the way you talk, even your scent…”

“It’s all her.”

“Elena, you’re not dead, are you?”

“You just changed your identity and came back to punish me, didn’t you?”

There was something pleading in his voice—like a drowning man grasping at straws.

I looked at his pathetic expression and felt a wave of satisfaction.

“Does it matter whether I am or not? What difference would it make?”

I pushed his hands away and walked to the window.

Outside, the chapel looked sinister in the darkness.

“If I were Elena, I’d tear you apart.”

“If I’m not, then what you’re doing right now is harassment.”

Luca stood there, head hanging low like he’d already lost.

“I know you hate me.”

“Just admit it. Do whatever you want to me.”

“Kill me if you want.”

I turned around and looked at him coldly.

“Your life? What’s it worth?”

“Luca, do you really think death fixes everything?”

“Living with the guilt—that’s the real punishment.”

I pulled a folder from my bag and dropped it at his feet.

“Look.”

“Isabella’s medical records from the past five years.”

Luca picked it up, confused.

He flipped through a few pages, and his face went white.

“What… what does this mean?”

“You can’t read?”

I laughed coldly.

“It means she never had leukemia.”

“That whole so-called ‘bone marrow transplant’ was a scam. She bribed some crooked doctor to play along.”

“The abnormal results on her blood work? That came from medication she’d been popping for months.”

“And you—for a complete lie—”

“You killed the woman who loved you most. And your own child.”

CRACK.

Something exploded inside Luca’s head.

He stumbled backward, knocking over the chair behind him.

“No… that’s not possible…”

“How could it be fake…”

He flipped through the pages with shaking hands.

Every word was a slap to his face.

“That’s the truth,” I said, walking toward him, each word a knife.

“Luca Romano, you’re a complete idiot.”

“You destroyed everything yourself.”

Luca dropped his head into his hands and collapsed to his knees.

A guttural scream tore out of him.
