The Don’s Dead Bride Chapter 08

The Don’s Dead Bride Chapter 08

The fish bit faster than I expected.

The next morning, Romano’s consigliere called my private line.

His voice was sycophantic. Luca was inviting me to the estate for a consultation on Isabella’s case.

I let them wait three days.

On the fourth day, Luca drove to Matteo’s estate himself.

“Dr. Alessia is quite the hard-to-get.”

He leaned against his car door, watching me walk out holding Marco’s hand.

When his eyes landed on Marco, his breath caught.

They looked too much alike.

The eyes. The sharp jawline—it was like looking at a mini version of himself.

I tensed and subtly moved Marco behind me. “This is my son, Leo.”

Luca stared at Marco, his breathing turning ragged.

“How old is he?”

“Five,” I answered evenly.

The timeline fit. If that baby had survived that night, he’d be five now.

Luca’s eyes turned red. He stepped forward, desperate to see Marco’s face.

“Whose kid is he?! Is he—”

“Mine.”

Matteo walked out of the villa, draping an arm over my shoulder. Then he picked Marco up.

“Luca, asking for my son’s birth certificate right to my face? That’s pretty out of line.”

Luca froze.

He looked at the kid in Matteo’s arms—the cold expression, those unmistakable features.

Then he looked at me, nestled against Matteo.

The light in his eyes died again.

“Your… son?”

He gritted out the words like he was chewing glass.

“Who else’s?” Matteo kissed Marco’s cheek, a smirk on his face.

“Alessia and I met overseas. This kid’s been mine since day one. You don’t actually think the whole world revolves around you, do you?”

Luca’s fists clenched until his knuckles went white.

After a long silence, he forced himself to breathe evenly.

“Fine.”

“Since you belong to the Costa family now, we’ll keep this professional.”

“Save Isabella. Name your price.”

I glanced at Matteo, a smile playing on my lips.

“Deal.”

“But I have three conditions.”

Luca looked at me. “Name them.”

“First—five percent of Romano Holdings.”

He didn’t hesitate. “Done.”

“Second—I stay at the Romano estate during treatment.”

That place where I’d been trapped.

Where the nightmare started.

That was where I’d end it.

Luca studied me, trying to read my face.

He failed.

“Done.”

“Third…” I walked up to him and took off my sunglasses, revealing my mocking eyes. “I want Isabella Rossi on her knees right in front of me, begging for me to save her.”
