The Devil Alpha’s Last Chance Chapter 03

The Devil Alpha’s Last Chance Chapter 03

I stepped away from his touch. “Stop pretending, Zayden.”

My voice was calm. “When they broke my hand, the prison guard called you. I heard every word.”

His words had cut through my heart like a knife.

“A broken bone isn’t a big deal. Yasmin’s always been too proud, always showing off her awards and rankings in front of Zara. Maybe it’s time she learned a lesson. Send the prison doctor over later.”

“You… you heard that?”

Zayden’s voice pulled me back to the present. He frowned in confusion. “No… the prison doctor told me you fractured it by accident. What do you mean someone broke it?”

“Brother.”

A soft, delicate voice came from the doorway.

Zara walked in carrying a stack of documents and affectionately slipped her arm through Zayden’s. “I questioned everyone who came into contact with Yasmin while she was in prison. They all said she only twisted her hand by accident and that it healed with time. No one ever bullied her.”

She handed him the papers with a smile.

“See? These are all their statements. You don’t need to worry about Yasmin.”

The hesitation in Zayden’s eyes vanished instantly. Looking at me with a conflicted expression, he asked again, “Then… how exactly was your hand injured?”

Just like always.

No matter how much I suffered, all it took was a few lies from Zara, and he believed every word.

I quietly put away my notebook, my heart already numb.

“Please leave.”

Suddenly, an expensive phone was thrust in front of my face.

“Yasmin, everyone in the pack has been worried since you disappeared. Say hello to them.”

The moment I saw the livestream with over a hundred thousand viewers, terror crashed over me.

It was just like the courtroom three years ago.

Countless pack members had been deceived by false testimony, condemning me for fleeing after drunk driving and demanding I pay with my life.

“Get away! Stop filming me!”

I completely lost control, slapping the phone out of Zara’s hand before stumbling backward until my back hit the cold wall. I struggled to breathe.

Pain flashed across Zayden’s face.

“What’s wrong with you?”

“Yasmin…” Zara choked back a sob. “If you don’t want to see me, I’ll leave right now…”

I cut her off.

“Please… stop coming to visit me. I’m begging you.”

My hand was ruined.

I could never become a healer again.

I was dying.

Why couldn’t they just leave me alone?

“Yasmin, Zayden and I searched everywhere for you. How could you say something like that?”

Seeing Zara on the verge of tears, Zayden’s expression darkened immediately.

“Zara has been worried about you this whole time, and this is how you treat her?”

He continued scolding me, but I couldn’t hear a single word.

I wrapped my arms around my head, instinctively curling into a defensive position.

“I… I’m begging you…”

“Please let me go.”

A loud bang echoed through the apartment as the front door slammed shut, and silence finally returned.

I remained crouched on the floor, completely numb.

After what felt like forever, I picked up my phone, sent my landlord a message to terminate the lease, and scheduled an assisted death procedure.

Living no longer felt worth it.

Maybe it was better to find peace sooner.

At five o’clock the next morning, I received a call from the cemetery.

“Is this Yasmin Pryce, the owner of Plot No. 33? That plot has been transferred to another buyer. Your grave has been moved to the shared burial section next to it.”

I froze.

“I paid for that plot in full a year ago. What right do you have to transfer it without my permission?”

The staff member let out a mocking laugh.

“The new buyer offered eight hundred thousand dollars. Tell you what, if you can pay one million, I’ll give the plot back to you.”

“You’ve been holding onto that grave for a whole year. If you’d died sooner, I never would’ve sold it. But since you’re still alive, you’re just wasting the space.”

The call ended abruptly.

I immediately hailed a taxi to the cemetery, cold sweat breaking out across my forehead.

That plot…

It was supposed to be my final resting place.

The moment I arrived, I saw Zara directing workers as they carried away the gravestone engraved with my name.
