The Day I Left He Proposed But I No Longer Wanted Marriage Chapter 06

I didn’t stay to hear the rest.

I simply grabbed a few pieces of clothing and left.

Because I really had nothing much to pack up.

In the walkin closet, all those designer pieces Evan had bought me—I didn’t touch a single one.

The jewelry in the jewelry box—I left behind exactly as it was, untouched.

Everything he’d given me over the years—I didn’t take a single item.

Before he boarded the plane, Evan made a point of sending me a text message.

“Aria, I’m heading abroad on a business trip—I’ll be back soon. Be good and wait for me at home.”

I didn’t even have the slightest desire to reply. I simply ignored it.

When he didn’t get a response from me, he probably figured I was still throwing a tantrum.

So he didn’t think much of it, turned around, and flew off to South Africa with Claire.

This trip lasted an entire month.

Claire kept refusing to come back home, clinging to him and dragging him everywhere to sightsee.

Although Evan was exasperated, he still kept his patience and humored her, losing quite a lot of time.

It wasn’t until my birthday that he rushed back, racing against time, and finally landed back home at noon.

The moment Evan turned his phone back on, a flood of messages from his assistant came pouring in.

“Mr. Harrison! The wedding venue has been fully set up!”

“We’ve already sent a car to Riverside Heights to pick up Ms. Mitchell—when will you be arriving?”

Listening to his assistant’s report, a smile spread across Evan’s handsome face.

“I’ll be there right away.”

He didn’t even go home first. He rushed straight to the wedding venue.

New York’s most lavish outdoor lawn was now completely swallowed by a sea of white roses stretching as far as the eye could see.

Evan changed into a meticulously tailored white suit.

He held a bouquet of dewkissed white roses, standing tall and striking in the center of the sea of flowers.

He glanced down at his watch, a gentle smile hanging at the corner of his lips.

He’d already begun imagining the tears of sheer emotion I would cry the moment I saw all these white roses blanketing the ground.

One hour passed.

Two hours passed.

Evan’s patience was worn down, thread by thread, until nothing remained.

Just then, a black sedan slowly pulled into the venue.

Evan’s eyes lit up and he rushed forward to meet it.

“Aria, you have no idea how long I’ve been waiting—”

But his words came to a dead halt the moment the car door opened.

Because the back seat was completely, utterly empty.
