The Comments Told Me to Fight the Fake Heiress but I Chose Her as My Sister Chapter 06

I spun around.

Elowen stood in the shadows, paler than the moonlight.

She held her phone.

On the screen, the voice memo timer had been running for eight minutes.

I looked at her.

She looked at me.

Beyond the terrace lay the glittering sprawl of the city. Inside lay the rot under Silas’s gentle skin.

The crimson lines finally crept back, but they just looped on autopilot.

[Don’t trust Elowen.]

[She’ll hurt you.]

It was suddenly too loud.

Elowen saved the recording, her voice quiet.

“Lila.”

“This round-do you want to play it differently?”

I didn’t answer right away.

Because in my past life, Elowen and I had barely spoken ten real words to each other.

We’d lived under the same roof like two knives pressed against each other.

One word from her, and I took it as a threat. One tear from me, and she assumed I was staging a coup.

We’d never once sat down and asked: what are you actually afraid of?

Now she stood in front of me, holding evidence that could tear a hole through Silas.

I stared at her. “When did you start suspecting him?”

Elowen looked down.

“A long time ago.”

She opened her photo album.

There were several photos. Silas deliberately steadying her hand in a dark corner of a gala. Silas mentioning her pet project to August. Silas texting her to ask what Caspian was working on.

“He only ever got close when someone was watching.” Elowen said, “At first I thought I was imagining it. Then you came back, and every time he told us two different stories at the same time, I knew.”

I scrolled through the screenshots.

The timeline stretched back a long way.

The earliest was even before I’d been brought home.

Which meant the Hale family had been eyeing Voss Holdings for a long time.

I asked, “Why didn’t you say anything?”

Elowen was quiet for a moment.

“If I had, would you have believed me?”

I didn’t speak.

In my past life, of course I wouldn’t have.

I’d have thought she was bragging about how special Silas thought she was, that she was patronizing me.

Elowen looked at me and said suddenly, “I know you hated me.”

“I did.”

I admitted it flat out.

She blinked.

I leaned against the wall, staring at the crimson lines that still wouldn’t quit.

“I didn’t just hate you. I didn’t just dislike you. I hated you.”

Elowen’s fingers tightened.

I continued, “Because someone kept telling me you’d take everything from me.”

“Someone?”

She caught the word instantly.

I looked at her.

Coming back from the dead sounded like madness.

Seeing crimson lines sounded even worse.

But I was done being trapped alone.

“I can see words.” I said, “They tell me who’s going to hurt me, who’s going to steal from me. In my past life, I

did what they said. It ended badly.”

Elowen’s face changed slowly.

She didn’t ask if I was losing my mind.

She didn’t say it was impossible.

She just went quiet for a long time, then asked.
