The Comments Told Me I Was Carrying His Only Heirs Chapter 13

Josiah returned to the room as soon as he hung up.

I told him I was completely fine and that he should get back to his business.

But he insisted on staying by my side, refusing to leave for the office until the next morning.

When Mrs. Carrington found out I had regained consciousness, she dropped by my room on her way back from visiting the babies in the NICU.

She only stayed for a few minutes, giving me a few detached, formal reminders before taking her leave.

Before walking out the door, however, she had her assistant wire five million dollars to my account.

Honestly, that was the ultimate form of care for a new mother.

Josiah came to the hospital every single day right after work.

He would visit the babies first and then spend the rest of the evening with me.

I told him there was no need to keep me company every single day.

But he wouldn’t back down, and I couldn’t really find a way to argue with him.

I was discharged after two weeks, but the babies didn’t meet the health criteria to leave until two months later.

Mrs. Carrington wanted to bring the children back to the Carrington Estate to be looked after, but Josiah refused, stating he wanted to raise them himself.

To make things easier, Josiah officially moved into my penthouse.

He absolutely adored the twins, spending nearly every spare moment outside of work and essential business functions wrapping his entire life around them, never growing tired of it.

While devoting his attention to the babies, he didn’t forget his promises to me either.

Not only did he book the absolute best postpartum recovery specialist, but he also checked in constantly on my mental well-being.

More importantly, he transferred money to my account on a regular basis, far exceeding the amounts we had originally settled on in our agreement.

Without either of us realizing it, our one-year arrangement was drawing to a close.

As the date of my departure crept closer, the thought of leaving the babies tore at my heart.

Even though the comments suggested Josiah might want to keep things exactly as they were, he had never openly stated it, so I didn’t dare get my hopes up.

A few days before the twins’ first birthday, I started packing my bags to get ready to move out.

The evening the birthday celebration wrapped up, I took the initiative to approach Josiah about getting a divorce.

Josiah was in the middle of a phone call, so I waited until he hung up before asking, “Mr. Carrington, do you have a moment to talk?”

Josiah set his phone down, “Yes.”

Just as I opened my mouth to speak, he cut in ahead of me, “Can we not get a divorce?”

Even though this was the exact outcome I had secretly wished for, hearing the words actually come out of his mouth left me completely stunned.

Josiah looked right into my eyes, his expression utterly earnest, “I’ve fallen in love with you. Will you stay?”

Seeing me remain silent, he took a few steps forward until he was standing right in front of me, speaking with absolute seriousness, “I’m absolutely, completely certain that this isn’t an impulsive decision, and I’m not saying this against my own will.”

“As for Juniper, I’ve entirely moved on from her.” He paused there and then added, almost as if talking to himself, “I don’t even know why, but ever since her wedding with Alistair, I suddenly… felt at peace with it.”

I stared at him with a deeply skeptical look.

[Don’t doubt him! I can vouch that he’s not lying to you! Ever since the wedding ended, he hasn’t had a single unnecessary interaction with the FL. Even when she gave birth, he only sent a gift out of basic courtesy!]

[Back when Josiah was ambushed by those whores, he managed to fight them off and escape. But when it came to the extra, she gave him one gentle push and he went down right onto the bed. I refuse to believe he wasn’t at least a little captivated from the start, hahaha.]

[The extra is so beautiful, it’s completely natural to be drawn to her looks.]

[Even so, I feel like Josiah moved on way too fast.]

[Is it possible that once the main story ended, he finally broke free from the constraints of the plot?]

“If you don’t want to, forget it. Tomorrow we’ll…”

The raw disappointment in his voice snapped me out of the comments.

I blurted out immediately, “I agree!”

Regardless of whether he had truly moved on from the FL or not.

Even if it was solely for the sake of the babies, it was entirely worth staying and keeping my place as his wife.

Josiah froze for a fraction of a second, and then a look of pure, joyful surprise washed over his face, “Really?”

I nodded vigorously, “Of course!”

Josiah stepped forward, pulling me into a hug that was simultaneously ecstatic and restrained, “Thank you for being willing to give me a chance.”

The next day, Josiah took the babies and me back to the Carrington Estate, breaking the news to Mrs. Carrington that we had decided against the divorce.

Mrs. Carrington was incredibly supportive of the decision.

It wasn’t necessarily because she had grown exceptionally fond of me, but rather because she believed it was far better for her grandchildren to grow up with their biological mother by their side.

When the twins turned three, Josiah and I finally held our wedding ceremony.

The moment we exchanged rings, I saw the comments flash across my vision one last time.

[Yes! It’s a happy ending!]

[Congratulations!]

[Wishing them eternal happiness!]

I couldn’t be entirely certain how long our happiness would last.

But the fact that my children were the sole heirs to the Carrington fortune was something that would never, ever change.
