The CEO Hid His Mistress Inside A Million Dollar Painting Chapter 05

I was about to leave early when Vicky blocked my way, holding a cup of specially blended flower tea and a nut cake. “Perla, Mr. Thorne ground the nuts himself. As his wife, you should have the first bite.”

She smiled sweetly.

I stared at the nut-covered frosting, my face turning cold. “Didn’t you know I’m severely allergic to nuts?”

Vicky’s eyes welled up, looking like a frightened deer.

“Enough. Don’t make a scene over nothing.” Hyatt walked over with a frown, clearly annoyed. “I forgot to

mention it. Vicky didn’t do it on purpose.”

“It’s a happy day. Do you have to throw a tantrum and embarrass me in front of the whole company?”

Vicky grabbed Hyatt’s hand, lifting the teacup with a hurt tone. “It’s my fault, Mr. Thorne. Let me apologize to Perla with tea in place of wine. Just one sip, Perla. Will you forgive me?”

She held the cup up in an incredibly humble pose, and people around them had started to stare.

When I didn’t take it, Hyatt scoffed, “What, you think Vicky is trying to poison you?”

“If you’re going to be such a buzzkill, hand over your shares. Stay home and be a proper wife instead of making a fool of yourself in public.”

I didn’t want to cause a scene, so I took the cup and drank it all in one gulp.

I thought I could leave.

But the moment I turned, my throat swelled shut, and huge red rashes spread across my neck.

The tea…

Panicked, I grabbed Hyatt’s sleeve. “The tea… there’s an allergen in the tea… hospital… take me to the

hospital…”

“Still faking it?” Hyatt shook me off roughly, brushing his sleeve in disgust. “You’ll stoop to anything for

attention, won’t you? Vicky gave you tea, not arsenic.”

I collapsed onto the terrace.

Gasps broke out around me, and Hyatt finally realized something was wrong.

“Mr. Thorne, Mrs. Thorne’s face is really swelling up…”

“Call an ambulance! This doesn’t look fake!”

When I woke up again, I was lying in my own bed, a cold strip of medical tape stuck to the back of my hand.

Hyatt exhaled in relief when I opened my eyes. “You’re finally awake. The doctor said you accidentally ate nut powder. Vicky didn’t mean it. I’ve already talked to her. Let’s just move on.”

I stared at the ceiling, my voice flat. “It’s fine. She’s young, I won’t hold it against her.”

Hyatt relaxed, surprised by how easy I was being. “I always knew you were the most reasonable person. Get some more sleep. I’ll make you something good to eat later to help you recover.”

He stood and left.

As the door closed, Vicky’s sweet voice drifted in, “Mr. Thorne, Perla really isn’t mad at me?”

“She wouldn’t dare. After this little drama, she’ll behave.”

“So are you going to cook for her?”

Hyatt chuckled, his tone vulgar. “Come on. We agreed earlier, once she’s asleep, we’ll try a new position in that landscape painting by the guest bed…”

[Hyatt is something else! His wife is still sick, and he’s already planning to take Vicky into the painting!]

[Oh no! That landscape painting has the “zoom-in” ability. They’re gonna do it right in front of Perla’s bed!]

I slowly turned my head toward the small, ordinary landscape painting by the bed.

Sure enough, two overlapping figures were hidden in the grass.

From so close, I could hear their faint, breathless moans.

“Mr. Thorne… will Perla really not see us here?”

“That idiot’s dead asleep. And even if she wakes up, she’ll just stare blankly at the painting like she always does.”

I got out of bed, pulled a lighter from the drawer without expression.

I gently took the painting off the wall.

“Since you two love scenery so much,” I said quietly, “let me turn up the heat for you.”
