The CEO Hid His Mistress Inside A Million Dollar Painting Chapter 04

The CEO Hid His Mistress Inside A Million Dollar Painting Chapter 04

A wooden box crashed heavily at my feet.

The lid flew open, and the contents slid out from the impact, hitting the wall and shattering into pieces.

The moment I saw what it was, I froze.

It was the carved wooden figurine of a united couple, handcrafted by my grandfather with all his remaining strength on his deathbed, for Hyatt and me.

Grandpa had said the wood warded off evil, ensuring I’d always have a home to return to, safe year after year.

It was his last and only gift to me in this world.

I’d kept it cherished, hidden deep in a drawer.

“What have you done…” My voice trembled, barely audible, as I bent to pick up the broken wooden pieces.

“I barely touched it. Who knew it was so fragile it’d break just from being dropped?” Hyatt’s voice faltered briefly, then turned harsh. “It’s just a worthless trinket. If you like it, I’ll get ten, eight master carvers to fill the house with them later.”

“Are you really moping over some dead man’s old junk?”

“This was my grandpa…”

“Enough! Get out!”

The door slammed shut in my face, locking with a loud click, sending splinters scattering across the floor.

Tears spilled over instantly.

That night, I sat on the living room floor, piecing it back together until dawn.

Noise echoed from the bedroom all night long, too.

By morning, the figurine was whole again.

But it was covered in countless fine cracks, nothing like it used to be.

Without a trace of expression on my face, I wiped away the last tear from the corner of my eye and pulled out my phone to place some orders.

The highest-resolution pinhole camera and a bottle of industrial-strength corrosive acid, specially formulated for art materials.

You two love romping around inside paintings?

Fine. Let me give you a hand.

A few days later, Hyatt landed a huge deal.

He gave all the credit to Vicky and threw a lavish celebration party.

The venue was the hotel Peninsular Palace, where we’d gotten engaged years ago.

Vicky linked her arm through his, smiling brightly. “Perla, Mr. Thorne says their French cuisine is the best in the city. I thought we all worked so hard, we deserved a nice meal. You don’t mind, do you?”

I looked at her, my heart completely still. “Of course not. After all, even the servants who used to work at my house put in just as much effort when entertaining guests.”

Vicky’s smile froze. Hyatt’s wine glass clattered sharply against the table.

Ignoring his glare, I stood and left the table, stepping onto a quiet terrace to call my father.

“Dad, pull out all your investments.”

“Why? Finally had enough of your precious Hyatt?” Dad snorted over the phone.

“It’s not that I’m reluctant,” I said quietly.

I glanced at Hyatt, triumphant on stage.

“It’s that he’s filthy. I don’t want him anymore.”

The comments rolled nonstop.

[Perla’s pulling investments? Won’t that mess with Hyatt and Vicky?]

[Naive. His Painting Entry ability is traded for career luck. He’s so powerful, he can fool around with Vicky forever!]

Painting Entry traded for career luck?

No wonder. For six months, our family poured resources into him, yet he kept messing up.

Turns out he’d been cashing it all in for a few moments of pleasure in a painting.

I smiled coldly.

Without my family backing him, let’s see how long his “magic power” lasts.
