The Broken Luna Rises Chapter 05By Novel7s / May 27, 2026 The Broken Luna Rises Chapter 05Sunlight slanted through the blinds the next morning. Lucien pushed open the door, carrying a bowl of hearty chicken noodle soup. It used to be my favorite. “Elira, are you done throwing a fit?” He walked in, complaining impatiently. “You even blocked the hospital’s number last night? You’ve got some nerve.” “Celine just messed up your brakes. Is that really worth faking death for this long?” He reached my bed and went silent. The bed was empty. The sheets were neatly folded, no wrinkles at all. The nightstand was bare. Even my water glass was gone. Lucien froze, then laughed coldly. “Great. Learned to run away from home now?” “You think hiding means I’ll beg you to come back?” He slammed the thermos on the table and turned to find a nurse. He barely reached the door when he ran straight into my attending physician who performed the emergency treatment from the night before. The healer’s eyes were bloodshot, his face pale with anger. “Alpha. You finally showed up.” His voice was ice–cold. Lucien frowned, his tone laced with arrogance. “Where’s Elira? Tell her to quit playing and come home with me.” The doctor stared at him like he was a monster. “Alpha Lucien. Luna passed away at 2:14 a.m. last night.” Lucien’s face went completely stiff. He acted like he’d heard the worst joke ever and forced a ridiculous smile. “You’re joking, right?” “She cursed me and called me stupid yesterday afternoon!” “It was just minor injuries. She can’t be dead!” The healer didn’t waste words. He slapped a file folder against his chest. “Read it yourself!” Lucien caught it numbly and flipped it open. The first page was a black–and–white death certificate. Cause of death: [Multiple organ failure caused by wolfsbane.] “Wolfsbane?” Lucien’s pupils shrank. His voice started to tremble. “How could she be poisoned? She was just sick…” The doctor sneered and pulled out the second document. It was the treatment consent form. “You signed this!” The doctor pointed at Lucien’s messy signature at the bottom, his hand trembling. “The nurse confirmed it twice! You signed without even looking!” “We called you dozens of times during resuscitation last night!” “You blocked every single one!” Lucien stared intently at the form. His own signature stared back like a poisoned knife, stabbing his eyes. “No… this isn’t real…” His hands shook violently as he held the paper. “I was… I was in a hurry to get Celine…” “I thought it was just a formality…” He suddenly looked up and grabbed the doctor’s collar, eyes bloodshot. “You’re healers! How could you not double–check?!” “You killed her! It’s your fault!” The doctor shoved him away, eyes filled with disdain. “Alpha Lucien, you’re her mate. You didn’t even know what was wrong with your wife.” “What gives you the right to yell at anyone here?” The healer fixed his white coat and spoke coldly. “Her body’s in the morgue.” “Make funeral arrangements.” Lucien sank weakly down onto the bed. The thermos tipped over. Warm soup spilled all over the floor. He stared at the mess and let out a sound like a dying animal. “Elira…” I floated near the ceiling, watching him break down. It felt ridiculously funny. Late love is worthless.
