The Billionaire’s Wife Who Couldn’t Afford Anything Chapter 03

The Billionaire’s Wife Who Couldn’t Afford Anything Chapter 03 You Still Don’t Trust Me

Thunk.

The moment Adrian Hawthorne spoke, I dropped the wedding photo into the box.

I frowned at him.

“Why are you back this early?

“Didn’t the teacher say you took Noah to Hawthorne Manor to see your grandfather?”

Adrian froze for a second.

I immediately looked behind him.

Empty.

No Noah.

A cold sense of panic instantly climbed up my spine.

I grabbed my phone and called the teacher. After I pressed her over and over again, she finally admitted the truth in a nervous voice.

“It was Mr. Richard Hawthorne…

“He took Noah away himself.

“He told us not to inform you. He also said… Noah wouldn’t be raised by your side anymore.”

My blood went cold.

Noah was my entire world.

I didn’t care about anything else anymore. I grabbed Adrian and forced him to drive me straight to Hawthorne Manor.

By the time we arrived, Noah was crying so hard his entire little body was shaking.

“I want Mommy!

“I want to go home!

“Grandpa, she’s not my mommy!”

Richard Hawthorne was forcibly pushing Noah toward Vanessa Lowell.

“This is your home,” the old man said sternly.

“What’s so good about that mother of yours? She’s narrow-minded and low-class. She only married Adrian for money.

“Grandpa’s finding you a better mother.

“Vanessa is educated, elegant, and gentle. She’ll raise you properly and help you succeed in life.”

I rushed forward immediately, pulled Noah out of Vanessa’s arms, and hugged him tightly against my chest.

Only after softly comforting him for a few seconds did I finally raise my head.

“Noah Hawthorne is my son.”

I stared directly at Richard Hawthorne.

“No one gets to take him away from me.

“Mr. Hawthorne, don’t you think this is going too far?”

Richard had always looked down on me.

Now he acted as though speaking one extra sentence to me would damage his status.

He didn’t even bother responding to me directly. Instead, he turned toward Adrian and coldly ordered:

“Get her out of here.

“Write her a check and end this cleanly. Consider it compensation for wasting her youth and giving birth to a child.

“If Vanessa hadn’t told me you two were getting divorced, I wouldn’t even know about this.”

The old man’s tone grew sharper and sharper.

“I’ve seen countless women like her.

“She says she wants a divorce now, but later she’ll use custody of the child to threaten you and bleed money out of the Hawthorne family forever.”

Adrian immediately shot Vanessa a furious glare.

Then he turned back toward his grandfather.

“We just had an argument,” he explained in a lower voice.

“Evie isn’t that kind of person.”

But Richard only became even more certain of himself.

“She isn’t?

“Then why did you spend three years testing her?

“You still suspected her, too, didn’t you?”

He slammed his cane against the floor.

“Adrian, what you feel for her isn’t love. It’s a pity.

“If that’s the case, stop letting this woman occupy the position of Mrs. Hawthorne.

“Keep the child. Give her money and finalize the divorce.

“I’m your father. Would I ever hurt you? Listen to me.”

The security guards nearby immediately stepped forward, clearly preparing to pull Noah out of my arms.

Tears instantly spilled from my eyes as I looked desperately at Adrian.

“Adrian, say something!

“We’ve been married for three years.

“Don’t you know by now whether I’m a gold digger or not?

“What I felt for you was real. And what I feel for Noah is even more real!”

Adrian fell silent.

That silence hurt more than any insult ever could.

Because even now…

he still doubted me.

I stared at him in disbelief, my chest aching so badly it felt like someone had ripped my out with bare hands.

“You…

“You still don’t trust me?

“In the last three years, have I spent even one dollar of your money?

“When I gave birth to Noah, I couldn’t even afford an epidural, so I endured the pain by myself.

“I delivered food. I cleaned houses. I let people step all over my dignity.

“But not once-not once-did I ever ask you for money.”

My voice shook harder with every sentence.

“Adrian Hawthorne…

“You really don’t have a heart.”

I didn’t want to say anything else.

Holding Noah tightly, I turned and walked toward the front door.

The security guards hesitated.

After all, they weren’t criminals. Noah was still just a child. If they accidentally hurt him while trying to stop me, Richard Hawthorne would be the first person to blame them for it.

I was only a few steps away from leaving the mansion completely, when suddenly, a scream rang out behind me.

“Oh, my God!”

It was Vanessa’s voice.

“Mr. Hawthorne collapsed!”
