The Arms Dealer Gave My Only Antidote To Her Chapter 05

The Arms Dealer Gave My Only Antidote To Her Chapter 05

Mack’s scream cut through Declan like a frozen knife, shattering whatever was left of his calm.

The phone slipped from his fingers and cracked against the seat. The screen spiderwebbed-just like his

heart.

“Stopped breathing…”

The words looped in his head, pounding at his temples. He saw Sloane on the floor, her ghost-white face, that barely audible “it hurts,” and the way she’d clutched his pant leg. Total despair in her eyes.

He’d told himself she was acting. Pretending to leave so he’d chase. A drama.

Eight years. She’d always been like that. Even when she was hurt, she’d grit her teeth until he showed up. Even when she was miserable, she’d just cry quietly. She never really left.

He thought she was unkillable, like jungle weed. She’d carried him two and a half miles through mud. One shot of medicine couldn’t possibly-

He stomped the gas. The Maybach became a black blur. The scream of the tires couldn’t drown out the

wild pounding in his chest. A panic he’d never felt, drowning him like a tidal wave.

He remembered every question she’d asked.

“Declan, if I die because of this, will you regret it?”

“Declan, if I really die, will you regret it?”

“If you leave now, you’ll never see me again.”

Back then, he’d just been annoyed. Another cheap trick. But now every word was a nail hammered into

his chest. He couldn’t breathe.

He remembered the jungle night. Three bullets in him. Dying. She’d carried him step by step through

waist-deep mud, rain hitting her face, her voice shaking but steady, “Declan, you can’t die. You said you’d take

me to Maldives. You said we’d get married. Have a daughter who looks like me.”

He’d clung to her back, felt her warmth, heard her fast breathing, and swore he’d protect her forever. Give her the best of everything.

And then?

He rose to the top. Became the arms king with more money and power than God. And he gave all his softness to a woman who just happened to look like his dead sister.

He gave away her life-saving serum. He ignored her pain. He cut her with the coldest words. He told himself everything she had was his, so she should accept whatever he gave.

He even thought her love-her sacrifice-was just owed to him.

“Sloane…”

He whispered her name. His voice was wrecked. His eyes burned.

He’d never once thought she could actually leave him. Forever.
