The Alpha Willfully Let His Beta Slay My Wolf Chapter 09

The Alpha Willfully Let His Beta Slay My Wolf Chapter 09

I was not passive.

But no matter how I argued, the response was the same dismissal.

“Seraphine, must you make everything a crisis? It is merely water.”

“You are Luna. She is a warrior bleeding for this pack. Is a little gratitude improper?”

“Look at you now. What would the council think, seeing such pettiness?”

Under his relentless conditioning, I buried all pain and rage, forcing endurance.

Recalling it before brought wounded pride.

Looking back now, it nears laughter.

I cannot believe I was ever so pathetic.

For a moment, Cassian stands frozen, panic flickering across his face.

“I am sorry… I confused matters. Seraphine, what do you favor?”

“Tell me. I shall obtain anything.”

I grab my day’s gear and say flatly, “Do not bother.”

Cassian does not yield.

Afterward, he sends gifts ceaselessly.

Once, a shortsword inlaid with silver-vein crystal. Too heavy to lift.

Once, an exceedingly rare rot-bone vine. Bitter enough to induce vomiting.

Once, a silver-fox cloak crafted from the rarest pelts.

I sometimes wonder.

How does an Alpha who cannot listen manage an entire pack and negotiate with others?

On the day our expedition ends, Cassian blocks my path, holding an exquisitely wrapped velvet box.

He says, “I promise you will favor this.”

I do not let him open it.

I say only, “It is the silver-tear stone bracelet, is it not?”

Cassian’s eyes widen in excitement.

“See? We are destined! How did you know?”

“Because I saw it on Vera’s private account. She declared it her greatest desire.”

“Just like that garish shortsword.”

“That herbal brew that sickened me.”

“That fur cloak reeking of decay.”

With each word, more color drains from Cassian’s face.

He likely never realized he attempts to win me back with things
another woman covets.

At this point, even I am bewildered.

“Cassian, observe. You know another woman’s preferences
intimately. Why not grant me this?”

“Would it not be simpler to beg the Moon Goddess to make Vera your
mate?”

Without thought, Cassian says, “She lacks depth. She wants my title. I
could never bond with such.”

In that moment, I finally grasp his obsession with me.

I meet Cassian’s eyes, a smile half-pitying, half-mocking on my lips.

“So you believed I remained at your side all these years due to mad
infatuation?”

“So you thought I refused your gifts out of spite, awaiting your sweet
words?”

I step closer, watching fear dawn in his eyes.

“You are wrong, Cassian.”

“I chose to be your Luna not solely from devotion.”

My wolf is dead. These words provoke no bond backlash.

“It was also because your pack possessed the sole medicine keeping
my dying wolf alive.”

“Now my wolf is dead. The bargain is fulfilled. I need you no longer.”

“And I do not love you anymore.”
