The Alpha Willfully Let His Beta Slay My Wolf Chapter 02

The Alpha Willfully Let His Beta Slay My Wolf Chapter 02

Vera. The one who perfected fake consideration.

She would not grant me a gown or jewels. Certainly not the costly wolf spirit medicine.

“Two hundred thousand? Luna, I have never known a wolf to require such sums for treatment. Is this truly medical care?”

“I need a detailed breakdown before I stamp this. Approval denied.”

I tell her plainly. Emergency moonlight therapy. The full plan cannot be drafted until my wolf survives the critical phase.

Vera props her chin on her hand. Scarlet nails wave before my face. She sneers.

“Is that so? I am a strong Beta. My wolf has never required such excess. I cannot verify your claim.”

“Pack finances are strict. Loopholes invite disaster. Here is my offer, Luna. Obtain an emergency certificate signed by the Moon Priestess, and I shall approve it.”

Her eyes narrow to slits.

“The priestesses require tribute, of course. I do not target you, Luna. I serve the Alpha. Fulfill my duty.”

“Also, a copy of the pack medical code. For the record.”

Thus Vera delays until the critical window closes.

When the funds finally arrive, the chief healer only shakes his head and looks away.

In that moment, malice and searing pain twist together in my chest.

This is the end. A dead end.

Something heavy presses on my ribs.

My wolf releases one final, suffocated whimper in the depths of my mind. Then silence.

The mate bond is no longer sacred.

It is a chain. A collar. A cage I pretended not to see.

When I lay out my next steps, a strange calm settles over me.

Years of Alpha pressure evaporate like mist.

So when I scroll past Vera’s smug post in the pack feed, I do not flinch.

The photo shows Cassian adjusting her posture during training.

I calmly screenshot it. Then I like it.

Where Vera is involved, Cassian replies faster than a hunting wolf.

“Seraphine, why the like? It was training. Do not read into it.”

“You know you are the only one I care for. Vera is my right hand. Family.”

Another message appears.

“You already liked it. Unlike now, and you appear insecure. All have seen it.”

“Do me a favor. Leave a gracious comment under Vera’s post. Show your position is secure. Maintain my image. You are skilled at this, yes?”

I want to ignore it.

But bitterness clogs my throat.

So I give him what he wants.

“Beta Vera is the ultimate ‘family.’ Manages Alpha’s affairs, personal and political. Guards the Luna’s seal, controls my mate’s schedule. Truly dedicated. Exhausting, no doubt.”

“Every coin you save him now, spend freely once you take my place. Then you need not live like a rogue, as I have.”

I toss the phone onto the side table.

Begin packing.

The phone wails like a siren. Cassian’s voice messages.

My wolf is dead. The bond between us is severed.

Cassian can no longer reach me through the mind-link.

He must bombard my phone like any common wolf.

I press play.

His voice carries a thread of panic. “Seraphine! What madness is this? Was your account compromised?”

“Babe, do not do this. Delete the comment. We will speak.”

I power the phone off completely. Drop it on the couch.

Silence. At last.

Packing is swift.

All valuables nominally “belonging to the Luna” are locked behind a keypad door in the study.

I have spent my time curled in a house that was never mine.

An overstaying guest.

The room barely carries my scent anymore.

Now, I see everything clearly.
