The Alpha Who Threw Me Away for a Ghost Chapter 03

The Alpha Who Threw Me Away for a Ghost Chapter 03

The agonizingly long ceremony finally came to an end.

The dressing room door clicked open, and Alaric stood at the threshold.

He was pinching the bridge of his nose, looking thoroughly exhausted himself. “I’ll make this up to you. I’ll visit your parents personally and explain everything…”

I cut him off smoothly. “Don’t bother. They’re my parents, not yours.”

They have nothing to do with you anymore, so there’s no need.

He froze, utterly stunned.

Alaric sighed, his face etched with fatigue. “Don’t speak out of anger, Joanna. You know how hard Elara has had it with her sickness. What harm was there in letting her have this one moment?”

Even now, he still didn’t think he had done anything wrong. He was still defending her.

I pressed my lips together, feeling a wave of absolute exhaustion. “Believe whatever makes you feel better. I’m packing my things and moving out today. As for the territory we bought together for the new pack expansion, I’ll be looking for a suitable buyer. If you don’t want to sell, transfer the Silver Moon’s share of the investment back into my account.”

With that, my gaze drifted to my parents standing not far off in the corridor. Dropping a curt “We’re done,” I brushed past him and hurried toward them.

My parents were surrounded by a tight circle of Silver Moon pack Elders.

As I approached, I caught the tail end of a sneer: “…dumped by a Blood Moon Alpha on her own wedding day.”

The First Elder of Silver Moon was still lecturing them. “I told you before, a she-wolf has no business being so domineering. Becoming a rejected bride at her own Mating Ceremony… you’ve completely humiliated the Silver Moon pack.”

My parents had always been proud, and right now, their faces were tight with intense embarrassment and discomfort.

I bit my lip, stepping forward to glare coldly at the First Elder. “Are you an Elder of our pack, or are you a lapdog for the Blood Moon?”

“Alpha Alaric is the one who swapped brides without warning. He’s the one who broke his word. The only pack humiliated today is the Blood Moon pack.”

“If I had known it would turn out like this, I would never have agreed to a political alliance with them in the first place.”

The hallway fell into dead silence.

I took my parents’ hands and led them away from the crowd. Though my heart felt like it was being ripped to pieces, I kept my spine perfectly straight.

“If we don’t bind, we don’t bind,” I said with a tight smile. “I never planned on marrying an indecisive Alpha anyway.”

After seeing my parents off, I returned to the penthouse Alaric and I had furnished together.

The place was drenched in his scent. The weapon rack he had hand-crafted, the stargazing deck he had built just for me.

He once told me that I was the most dazzling she-wolf he had ever seen, as captivating as the northern lights.

But now, he found me too domineering.

I chuckled coldly as I packed my things, realizing that a seven-year relationship could apparently fit into half a suitcase.

Just as I grabbed the handle to leave, the front door was kicked open.

My best friend, Selene, rushed in like a hurricane.

The moment I saw her, the fierce facade I had maintained for hours shattered completely, and my throat tightened.

Selene pulled me into a fierce hug, squeezing me tightly. “If I had known, I would’ve swallowed my pride and been your maid of honor. You shouldn’t have been left entirely unsupported.”

She had hated Alaric for years—hated his wishy-washy inability to cut ties with his ex. She detested him so much that she had refused to attend our Mating Ceremony.

She had even left me with a harsh warning, swearing I would regret marrying him.

To put it bluntly, she had said that if Elara stayed alive, I’d always be second best, and if Elara died, I could never compete with a ghost.

We had a massive falling out over it.

Looking back now, she had hit the nail right on the head.

I was incredibly grateful to still have a friend like her.

With Selene around, the days became bearable.

She had deliberately requested an off-site training assignment to avoid my wedding. But the second her plane touched down, she heard about the disaster and rushed over, terrified I was crying myself to sleep alone.

She accompanied me back to the Silver Moon pack house, even taking a long leave of absence just to help me heal.

But right as she was rambling on, introducing me to eligible Alphas from other packs, Alaric showed up.

Selene poked a finger aggressively against my forehead, her voice deadly serious.

“If you take him back this time, I will literally rip your throat out!”
