The Alpha Let Her Humiliate Me Every Full Moon Chapter 08

Tears filled Dorian’s eyes. “I won’t accept it. I can’t lose you, Elara.”

His voice dropped to a plea. “The bet happened six years ago, but I truly fell in love with you. What

we had became real.”

When I remained silent, he added, “A terrible beginning doesn’t have to decide the ending. Maybe the Moon Goddess used that twisted path to lead me to you.”

I shook my head slowly, stunned that he still believed his excuses could change anything.

“My path,” I said steadily, “doesn’t include spending my life with someone who turned six years of love into humiliation and pain.”

He stopped moving.

“Do you understand that?”

Tears rolled down his face, but they no longer affected me.

After years of having my feelings trampled, I could no longer tell whether his tears were sincere or another attempt to make me stay.

I turned and walked away into the crowd.

Early the next morning, the Dawnhaven pack coordinator called to tell me that my assigned den was ready and that I could move in immediately.

I packed quickly, eager to leave the motel behind.

Dorian had remained outside all night. The front desk staff repeatedly offered him a room, but he refused and dozed against the wall instead.

Dawn had barely broken when I stepped outside and found him waiting there.

Dark stubble shadowed his jaw, and exhaustion had left deep lines around his eyes.

He reminded me of the night years earlier when he had waited outside my old home after I rejected him, as though making himself sick would guilt me into caring for him.

Wrapped tightly in his jacket and shivering from the cold, he looked up at me.

“Elara, are you leaving?”

I rolled my suitcase forward without looking at him.

He hurried after me, his words coming faster.

“I’ve been thinking all night. I know you’re furious because I repeatedly allowed Delilah to hurt

you.”

I kept walking.

“That stops now,” he said. “I never set any boundaries with her. It was all my fault.”

He moved in front of me.

“I’ll cut her out of my life completely. Please give me one more chance.”

I stepped around him.

“I’m not asking you to forgive me,” he continued. “Just don’t shut me out completely-”

A loud thud and Dorian’s grunt of pain sounded behind me.

A security guard hurried toward him. “Are you all right?”

I glanced back and saw that Dorian had tripped and fallen onto the pavement.

His left cheek was scraped raw, and his lip had split.

His injuries were minor compared with mine, but I felt no urge to help him.

“Hurt much?” I asked.

His eyes watered as he looked up at me, but I made no move to help him.

“Good. It should hurt.”

“Elara…”

“Every time you and Delilah humiliated me, whether it was yesterday or years ago, I hurt far worse

than this.”

He tried to push himself upright.

“Don’t kid yourself, Dorian. You didn’t simply make a mistake. You knew exactly what you were

doing.”

His hand stilled against the pavement.

“Whenever

you saw that I was ready to leave, you used another promise to pull me back.”

I tightened my grip on the handle of my suitcase.

“You care now only because you’ve finally lost me. Before that, you enjoyed knowing I would keep

coming back no matter how badly you hurt me.”

“Elara, please.”

“A man like you doesn’t deserve another chance.”

A cab pulled up beside the curb.

“Goodbye, Dorian.”

I climbed into the cab without looking back and asked the driver to leave.

As the cab drove away, Dorian’s desperate howls faded behind me.

At last, there was silence.

It was the first real peace I had felt in years.

My new pack duties were demanding, and I spent long hours reviewing reports and patrol schedules as I established a place for myself in Dawnhaven.

Outside of work, I mostly kept to myself.

For an entire month, Dorian and I never crossed paths.

Even so, I heard about him through casual conversations with my new packmates.

Every Friday evening, Dorian appeared near the Dawnhaven border.

He lingered there for hours, hoping to catch a glimpse of the female who had already left him

behind.
