The Alpha Let Her Humiliate Me Every Full Moon Chapter 05

The Alpha Let Her Humiliate Me Every Full Moon Chapter 05

Ten minutes passed without any response from Elara.

As Dorian stared at the unread message, he remembered the faint footsteps near the stairwell and the terrible possibility that she had overheard them.

He rejected the thought. Elara was direct; if she’d heard anything, she would have confronted him

immediately.

“Dorian, wake up.”

Delilah wrapped an arm around his shoulders.

“Where is she? If she doesn’t get here soon, I’m not apologizing.”

The contact broke his concentration and irritated him.

He pushed her arm away before his temper could snap.

“Back off. She won’t be happy if she sees you hanging on me.”

Delilah rolled her eyes.

“God, only you would baby her like this. Of all our friends’ mates, she’s the most dramatic, the

neediest, and the most boring.”

There had been a time when Dorian would have let the pack talk about Elara that way.

He might even have agreed when she wasn’t around.

But after seeing her injured because of Delilah’s prank, the insult made anger flare in his chest.

His expression hardened.

“That’s enough.”

Delilah blinked at him.

Dorian rarely spoke to her that way.

“She’ll be here any minute, so fix your attitude,” he continued. “This entire mess is your fault, not

hers.”

He pointed at the empty chair beside Elara’s treatment bed.

“And when she comes back, apologize sincerely. No more games.”

Delilah folded her arms.

Dorian ignored her glare.

“Her face is badly burned. She’ll be devastated if it scars.”

Delilah huffed and dropped onto the cot, resentment tightening her expression.

“Typical. This started as a stupid bet, and somehow you actually fell for her.”

She shook her head.

“She has no idea how lucky she is. What do you even see in her?”

Dorian walked to the window and looked up at the full moon.

As he thought of Elara, the tension in his face eased.

“You wouldn’t understand,” he said. “She’s incredible.”

Her appearance was only a small part of what made her special; what mattered most was her

kindness.

During their third year together, she had taken him to the refuge where she’d spent part of her

difficult childhood.

The children crowded around her for stories and proudly showed her their little projects.

The refuge director told him that since aging out, Elara had donated twenty percent of every paycheck and returned every few months with supplies for children who had been abandoned just

as she had.

She felt everything openly, crying during sad movies, laughing at ridiculous jokes, and shouting at

television characters whenever she needed to vent.

She was gentle without being weak.

Once, they had encountered a group of aggressive rogues in the Thornmire.

One of them screamed at Elara and mocked her for being an omega.

Instead of backing down, she let him vent before calmly talking him down.

She had a way of reaching even the most hostile people.

Watching her defuse the situation had filled Dorian with quiet admiration.

He hadn’t meant to fall in love with her, but he had.

The memory only deepened his guilt over the day’s disaster.

Dorian checked his phone again, but there was still no answer.

“This isn’t like her,” he muttered, glancing toward the corridor. “Could she have…”

The clinic door opened before he could finish.

He turned with a smile, expecting Elara, but only the healer stepped inside.

“Alpha Dorian, you’re still here?” she asked. “I thought the two of you had already left.”

Dorian went still.

“Left? Elara hasn’t come back. Where would we have gone?”

The healer frowned in confusion.

“But I saw her. She went into the rear stairwell right after you did.”

Dorian’s grip tightened around his phone.

The healer continued.

“She came back a little later, paid the treatment fee, and left. I assumed you knew.”
