Stepbrother’s Crime, War Hero’s Tortured Hell Chapter 04 A Deal for Vengeance

The moment the call ended, the other side fell silent for three seconds.

Then that deep voice came through, filled with restrained excitement:

“Silas, you finally made your decision.

“Someone will come for you in three days. But until then, you have to survive on your own

The call ended.

The wind swept through potter’s field, carrying the cold scent of death and decay.

I lay on the ground, barely conscious.

My body had been pushed beyond its limits.

But I clenched my teeth.

Three days.

I had to survive for three days.

On the first day, a storm raged.

Rainwater poured into my gaping abdominal wound, flushing out nearly half the tainted blood and vermin inside.

I convulsed all over in excruciating agony, yet I had no strength left even to scream.

On the second day, the scorching sun drained away the last of my strength.

I was parched from relentless sunlight, severely dehydrated. My lips cracked and oozed blood, and every breath felt as though a blade was slicing through me.

On the third night, a black unmarked vehicle stopped in front of me.

Two figures in protective suits stepped out.

Without saying a word, they carried me into the car.

The journey lasted so long that I thought I had already died.

When I opened my eyes again, I was surrounded by pale lights and cold metal walls.

The air was filled with the smell of disinfectant.

An old man in a white coat stood before me, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and holding a medical file.

He looked down at me and said calmly,

“Silas. A decorated soldier framed for a crime he didn’t commit, abandoned by his own family, and broken

seven years of suffering.

“Seventeen fractures across your body, complete tissue necrosis in the penis, severe abdominal infection. and six distinct toxins circulating in your bloodstream.

“You want revenge?”

I couldn’t answer. I could only stare at him.

He nodded and opened the file.

“I can give you a new life. But there will be a price.

“This laboratory exists for people who have been abandoned and forgotten.

“We will rebuild you and turn you into a weapon.”

He adjusted his glasses,

“But you’d better pass out before the process begins.”

No anesthesia was administered to me. I kept my eyes wide open, watching them plunge all manner of syringes into my veins.

The first injection was a muscle activator.

The instant the fluid flooded into my body, every muscle spasmed as if seared by blazing fire.

My fractured bones shifted and reset beneath my skin, emitting dry, creaking noises.

I ground my last three teeth to fragments, blood spraying out from between my jaws.

The second shot was a nerve regenerative agent.

Dead nerve endings sprouted anew, akin to thousands upon thousands of needles pricking every inch of my skin all at once.

My fingers regained mobility at last, yet every slight bend felt like a blade scraping against bone.

The third dose was an organ repair serum.

Necrotic tissue gradually sprouted fresh granulation flesh, accompanied by an insidious itching sensation as if worms were burrowing beneath my skin.

I shook violently all over, my sweat soaking the bedsheets time and again.

The elderly researcher jotted down data with an impassive expression the entire time, only glancing up at me now and then.

“Remarkable willpower.”

The transformation dragged on for three full months. Each single day was sheer hell.

Ye never once begged for mercy.

Whenever I teetered on the brink of collapse, Lucas’s hypocritical face surfaced in my mind.

I recalled Lin Shiyi’s retreating figure as she turned her back without hesitation to support Lucas away

I remembered the look in my father’s eyes when he kicked me hard in the chest-

he did not gaze upon his son, but upon refuse.

These memories burned into my heart like red-hot irons, steeling my resolve never to collapse.

Three months later, I stood before the mirror inside the laboratory.

The man reflected there bore no resemblance to my former self.

No scars marred my face; my skin was smooth and flawless, even appearing younger than it had been

before.

The old man tossed a military uniform toward me.

“Your new identity is finalized. From today onward, you are Dexter Maddox, a Colonel attached to the Special Operations Division of National Security.

“Your old identity is deceased. Silas was convicted of matricide, took his own life out of guilt in the prisoner-of-war camp, and his remains have been cremated.

“The funeral is scheduled for tomorrow.”

I slipped on the uniform, staring at the unfamiliar yet faintly familiar face in the glass.

“Where will the funeral be held?”

“Maddox Manor. Your grandfather intends to erect a tombstone for you before the ancestral plot, inscribed: Tomb of the Unworthy Descendant Silas.”

A faint smile tugged at my lips.

It was my first smile in seven years.

“Perfect timing.”

I picked up the service pistol resting on the table, checked the magazine, and chambered a round.

“Since they’re holding the ancestral ceremony, it’s time for me to go back and see them.”
