Starved Incubus: Wife Uses Me For Housework, I Want Kisses Chapter 07

Damn.

Who in the building just hit the Powerball?

It was kind of rude not to share the wealth.

You would think they might invite me, a minimum-wage corporate drone, to join the winner’s circle.

My bank account was already on life support after purchasing Damian.

Between rent, utilities, and keeping him fed, I was stretched thin.

Damian was too pretty to live a life of instant noodles and penny-pinching with me.

Come on, universe.

Send a little fortune my way.

I muttered a prayer to the finance gods all the way home, only to find the apartment pitch black.

What?

Did my incubus go grocery shopping?

I thought we had agreed he would stay put and not wander off.

I turned to head for the Supermarket down the block, but I ran right into Damian in the stairwell.

He looked startled, like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

“You are home?”

I nodded, eyeing him. “Where were you? The apartment is empty.”

“I went to get groceries.”

“Oh? Where are the bags?”

I stared at the incubus’s empty hands with open suspicion.

Damian fell silent, the lie dying in his throat.

“I am sorry. I will go back and get them now.”

He turned to leave, but I grabbed his arm and softened my tone.

“Forget it. We have plenty of leftovers.”

“Okay. Then I will start dinner.”

He slipped past me and headed straight for the kitchen.

Weird.

Usually, he would be making that needy, vibrating sound the second he heard my footsteps.

But tonight he was dead silent, and he seemed distracted as he chopped the vegetables.

The beautiful tail that usually teased my legs with its flirty swishes was now utterly still, drooping low and heavy behind him.

Damian was off.

What the hell was going on?

This strange mood persisted for days.

He vibrated with hunger, sure, but the spark was gone.

He just lay beside me, staring with an unreadable expression in those gorgeous eyes.

It actually made me crave him more, until I could not help but smother him with kisses.

I played with his tail until the fur was damp, trying to get a reaction.

Damian still did the housework, and he did it perfectly, enabling my laziness to reach new heights.

But several times when I came home from work, the apartment was empty.

He was sneaking around, and I had no clue why.

Finally, I could not ignore the elephant in the room any longer.

“Damian, are you in some kind of trouble?”

The incubus, currently scrubbing my socks in the sink, mumbled a reply. “No. I just think I found my family.”

My jaw dropped.

“Really? That is amazing. Do you need me to take a sick day and go with you to meet them?”

“No need. I can handle it. But…”

He wrung out a wet sock and turned to face me, his mouth set in a grim line.

“Sophia, may I leave for a few days?”

My stomach plummeted.

Everything about him—his looks, his grace, that undeniable air of nobility—screamed High-Tier.

I had always suspected he was some amnesiac blue blood I had accidentally picked up at a discount.

If he leaves, he is never coming back.

He will remember who he really is and realize he has been playing house with a nobody.

He might even find a new owner who actually fits his status.

But if he had found his family, I could not be cruel enough to act like his jailer.

I did not have the heart to keep him here when he looked so miserable.

I finally let out a heavy sigh.

“Go ahead, then.”

My permission seemed to shock him.

He looked at me, his gaze intense and solemn. “Sophia, I promise I will return.”

Yeah, right.

However, I certainly was not going to let this incubus walk out the door tonight without a proper goodbye.

I needed to get a return on my investment.

I spent a fortune buying him, and I refused to settle for just cuddles and clean laundry.

I was going to get exactly what I paid for.

I shoved him onto the mattress with feigned aggression, looming over him as I barked my order.

“Strip down. You’re not going anywhere until you’ve pleased me for the night.”
