Spring, Summer, Winter, I Am The Forgotten Autumn Chapter 03

Evening came, and the front door clicked open. Calvin carried three shopping bags bearing the logo of a premium electronics brand.

“Girls, look what I’ve got for you! Your reward for getting into university—the newest, top-of-the-line models.”

April and Summer shrieked and darted toward him. Winter took the final bag and smiled sweetly. “Thank you, Dad.”

I stood and instinctively took a step forward. Calvin’s hands were empty.

He met my eyes, his smile freezing for a split second, then he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. “Autumn… yours will have to wait until I get my bonus next month.”

“Buy her what?” Marina stood up from the sofa. “New phones are a reward for college acceptance. The delivery driver only brought three offer letters today. She didn’t get into any school, so why should she get one too?”

I parted my lips to speak.

I wanted to tell her there had been four envelopes at the door.

I wanted to say I’d been accepted to Hyperion University, with a scholarship covering full tuition, housing, and training expenses.

I wanted to tell them I was the only person across Silverbay Park to score an S-Rank on the Wolf Trial.

But no one gave me a chance.

They were already ushering my three sisters toward the dining room.

“Dinner’s ready.”

The maid set down the final platter of roast beef. Five place settings sat neatly on the table. One for each parent, one for each sister. There was no place setting for me.

I stared at the table for a moment, then turned calmly toward the kitchen. I fetched my own plate and served myself a portion of food that had already gone cold. They chattered eagerly about Mistbridge City’s shopping malls, castle hotel, and aurora overlooks. No one seemed to notice that a fourth daughter had taken a seat at the table.

I finished my meal quietly and headed back to my room to pack.

Early the next morning, I only brought a lightweight carry-on suitcase.

Once the whole family arrived at Silverbay International Airport, Marina bustled around, directing father to handle luggage and repeatedly reminding April to keep hold of their ID documents.

I trailed far behind, like a stray bag they might abandon without a second thought.

When we reached the international flight counter, Marina handed over a stack of identity cards.

The agent processed the reservation and handed her five boarding passes. They turned and walked away without a single backward glance.

I stepped forward and handed over my ID. “Could I check in as well?”

The agent pulled up the booking system and looked up at me apologetically. “I’m sorry, Ms. Grey. Your identification isn’t listed on the reservation.”

Just as I expected. Even after I’d explicitly told her to book six seats, Marina had only purchased five.

I glanced toward security. My parents and three sisters had already passed through, laughing together. None of them had realized someone was missing from their group.

I didn’t bang on the glass screaming like I had as a child. I didn’t chase them to demand answers.

I pulled out the bank card holding money I’d earned from part-time work and competition prizes. “Do you have seats available on the next flight to Mistbridge City?”

“There’s a departure in two hours, but only business class remains.”

“I’ll take it.”

Two hours later, I boarded the plane alone.

Silverbay City’s skyscrapers shrank beneath the window. My wolf stretched slowly inside me, finally at peace, unburdened by the ties I’d left behind.

I patted the backpack holding my Hyperion University acceptance letter.

Soon, I would never have to set foot in the Grey house again.
