Sold by My Mate, Claimed by Another Alpha Chapter 03

“Grimwood Pack already sent people to press for an answer. Ashenfang Pack has to hand someone over this morning.”

The cream pastry in my mouth lost every trace of sweetness.

All that remained was bitterness.

So even the smallest kindness had already come with a price.

Clara suddenly pulled free of Cassian’s arms and dropped to her knees in front of me.

“Emilia, I know you don’t want to do this, but Ashenfang Pack’s survival is on the line…”

“I’m not the true Alpha heiress of Ashenfang Pack. They won’t be satisfied with me.”

As she spoke, tears spilled down her face right on cue. “If you really won’t do it, then I’ll go myself…”

A few tears were enough to darken the faces of the two men who had once sworn to protect me for life.

Cassian pulled Clara into his arms and frowned. “Do you really have to drive Clara to her death before you’ll be satisfied?”

Rafael looked displeased too. “Emilia, you’re being unreasonable.”

But from the moment I came downstairs until now, I hadn’t done a single thing.

I hadn’t even said a word.

A deep, exhausted disgust rose in me all at once.

Lowering my eyes, I said only one sentence.

“I’ll do it, but I want my mother’s ashes in exchange.”

Something unreadable flickered through all three of their eyes.

Rafael, for once, softened his tone. “Don’t worry, Clara. I’ll go with Emilia to Grimwood Pack.”

Ever since Clara appeared, not a single promise my brother made had ever truly been kept.

I had long since stopped believing him.

Sure enough, halfway to Grimwood Pack, he got a call from Clara.

“Clara’s not feeling well. I have to go back.”

In just a few short years, the brother who once stood in front of me every time danger came, the one who used to treat my life as if it were more precious than his own, had stopped seeing me at all.

To him, a few pained words from Clara were enough to throw my life away without a second thought.

The Maybach sped off in front of me, kicking snow and wind into the air.

My heart went hollow, and all the pieces of memory I had been building since childhood came crashing down in an instant.

Everything left me in despair.

I don’t know how I made it to Grimwood Pack, or how I ended up standing before Alpha Christian Blake.

By the time I came back to myself, the guards had already forced me to my knees.

Grimwood Pack wasn’t one of the established packs in the territories, but it was still immensely powerful.

Rumor had it their earliest Alpha had once been a rogue. They built their power through organized crime in the territories, and Christian himself was known for ruthless methods. He never showed mercy to his enemies.

The scent of blood hanging in the air told me he was dangerous.

“So Ashenfang Pack sent a she-wolf like you to beg forgiveness. I guess they really don’t think much of me.”

The Alpha of Grimwood Pack sat high in the main seat, arrogant and unmoving. His face held no expression, but his eyes were cold enough to make it seem like the only thing that could please him was wrapping his hand around an enemy’s heart.

No matter what, the pack itself was innocent. Even if I hated my Alpha brother and hated Clara, I couldn’t let Ashenfang Pack be dragged into real danger because of this.

So I took the blame for drugging him and claimed it as my own, bowing until my forehead struck the floor over and over again.

All I could do was hope that, if I seemed sincere enough, he would spare Ashenfang Pack.

Each time my forehead hit the ground, a tear fell with it.

It wasn’t only an apology to Christian anymore. I could feel something inside me turning colder with every blow, and I knew I would never care about Ashenfang Pack again.

“A worthless no-wolf bitch like you dared to dose me. Then maybe I should send you to the club so you can learn your place.” His voice was icy.

I felt like I couldn’t breathe as I lifted my swollen red eyes and collapsed helplessly to the floor.

I had thought six hundred days in prison was hell.

I hadn’t known life could still become this hopeless.

And yet this should all have belonged to Clara.

She was the one who had dosed Alpha Christian Blake with an aphrodisiac, hoping he would mark her so she could leap straight into becoming Grimwood Pack’s Luna.

But her stupid plan had been exposed.

In the end, Grimwood Pack’s guards dumped me at the gates of Ashenfang Pack.
