Six Years Of Afternoon Tea Bought Me The Truth About My Husband Chapter 06

The screen kept scrolling.

The pages of the red folder flashed one by one.

[Postnuptial Property Arrangements.]

[Property transferred to the name of the unborn child.]

[Norah as guardian to manage on behalf of the child.]

Someone in the crowd actually laughed out loud.

A relative called out, “Isn’t this just transferring the wife’s assets straight to the mistress?”

Lainey shrieked, “Who are you calling a mistress? Norah is the mother of Andres’s child!”

I looked at her. “So you finally admit it?”

Lainey choked.

Andres quickly marched back and grabbed my wrist. “Enough. You chose my mother’s birthday to make a

scene like this?”

I looked at his hand. “Let go.”

“And if I don’t?”

I didn’t try to pull away.

I looked up at him, asking, “Are you sure about that?”

The driver played an audio recording.

It was the phone call Lainey had made to me a few days ago.

“She’s carrying a Moreau child in her belly.”

“Don’t just sit there occupying the spot and contributing nothing.”

“When the child is born, you might still get called ‘Mom.”

Sentence after sentence boomed out.

Lainey’s face went through a series of changes.

She lunged forward to rip out the power cords.

Callie blocked her. “Take it easy, ma’am. Watch your step, the pregnant lady is still waiting for you to back

her up.”

Lainey shook with rage.

Norah cried even harder.

She stood up, cradling her stomach, pleading, “Stevie, I know you hate me, but the baby is innocent. You can’t

push me like this.”

I walked right up to her. “Norah, you texted me before coming here to ask if I minded.”

Her face stiffened.

I tapped my phone to play the audio.

Her sickly sweet voice filled the room, “Then I’ll wear something loose. Otherwise, if people see my belly, they

might get the wrong idea.”

Norah’s tears froze on her face. She couldn’t keep up the act anymore.

Andres finally panicked. He grabbed me, his voice dropping to a desperate whisper. “Stevie, let’s go home and

talk. Whatever you want, I’ll agree to it.”

I looked at him. “I want you to tell the truth.”

“Okay, I’ll tell you.”

“What is your relationship with Norah?”

He closed his eyes for a moment.

“I just made a mistake. I wasn’t thinking straight.”

“For how long?”

“Two years.”

“Is the baby yours?”

He looked over at Norah.

Norah looked back at him.

Lainey cut in frantically, “Of course it’s Andres’s!”

I smiled. “Then let Mr. Moreau say it himself.”

Andres’s lips parted a few times. But no sound came out.

Norah panicked, crying, “Andres, say something! Didn’t you say you’d protect me and the baby?”

Lainey urged him on, too, shouting, “Son, what are you afraid of? Just lay it all out today. If Stevie won’t give you an heir, why shouldn’t you have one?”

A muscle in Andres’s face twitched.

He stared at me. “What else do you know?”

I didn’t answer.

I just signaled Callie to switch to the next slide.

The copy of a hospital reproductive clinic report appeared on the large screen.

Andres. Azoospermia.

The date of the examination was six years ago.

The doctor’s recommendation: assisted reproduction.

Lainey froze.

n’s hand slowly slid off her belly.

Andres stared fixedly at the screen.

I raised the microphone.

“Mrs. Moreau, you berated me for six years for being barren. Today is perfect. Let’s all take a look together and see exactly who it is that can’t reproduce.”
