She Wore My Dress, She Married My Groom, She Planned My Love Chapter 04

Cambria’s voice suddenly came from the doorway. Tressa was standing behind her.

“Torin. So you really are in here.”

Her gaze dropped to his hand, and her eyes immediately reddened.

“Am I always going to come second to her?”

“I know you still can’t let Veda go. If that’s what you want, then I’ll step aside…”

Torin pulled her tightly into his arms, his own eyes red. Cambria rose onto her toes and kissed him through her tears.

For one absurd second, I felt like the villain in some fairy tale.

I took a deep breath and forced back my tears. Without saying a word, I picked up my suitcase and headed for the door.

As I passed Tressa, she deliberately slammed her shoulder into mine.

I lost my balance, crashed hard into the low table behind me, and hit the floor.

A tearing pain ripped through my lower abdomen.

Warm blood quickly soaked through my skirt.

The second Torin saw it, his face changed.

He crouched beside me almost immediately and reached for me.

“Veda, are you okay?”

“I’m taking you to the hospital.”

For that one moment, the panic in his eyes looked real.

Then Cambria suddenly clutched her stomach and doubled over.

“Torin, my stomach hurts.”

“What if something’s wrong with the baby?”

Torin froze.

Mom and Dad immediately surrounded Cambria. Corbett lifted her into his arms while Tressa rushed to call the elevator.

Torin hesitated for only a few seconds before turning to follow them.

Before he left, he looked back at me.

“I’m taking Cambria to the hospital first.”

“It’s probably just your period. Go rest and you’ll be fine.”

The door shut behind them.

Soon, all I could hear were their hurried footsteps fading down the hall.

I held my lower abdomen and tried to get up long enough to call for help.

My fingers had barely touched my phone when everything went black.

A hotel housekeeper found me later, unconscious in a pool of blood, and immediately called an ambulance.

When the test results came back, the doctor’s expression was grave.

“You’re six weeks pregnant.”

“You’re showing signs of a threatened miscarriage. We need to admit you and monitor the pregnancy.”

I stared blankly at the ceiling.

Just as I had decided to leave Torin behind, our second child had quietly entered my life.

I spent the next two days in a hospital bed.

Shots. Medication. I barely dared to move.

But on the third morning, the doctor finished the exam and stayed silent for a long time.

“There’s no longer a heartbeat.”

“I’m sorry. We couldn’t save the pregnancy.”

I didn’t cry.

I only placed a hand over my stomach.

It was still flat, as if the baby had never been there at all.

Before the procedure, a nurse came in with the consent forms. She glanced around the empty room.

“Is anyone here with you?”

“The baby’s father didn’t come either?”

At that exact moment, an Instagram notification appeared on my phone.

Cambria had posted a photo.

She was lying in Torin’s arms.

Mom and Dad sat beside them, discussing baby names.

Corbett had bought a crib.

Tressa had given her a tiny pair of baby shoes.

The caption read:

[False alarm. Baby is PERFECTLY healthy ❤️]

[So grateful for everyone who loves us.]

They had spent the entire two days at another hospital with Cambria.

Not one of them had checked on me.

The nurse spoke softly.

“Do you want me to try calling someone again?”

I looked at the blank emergency-contact section on the paperwork.

After a long moment, I took the pen from her and signed the consent myself.

“No. There’s no one to call.”

After the procedure, the doctor urged me to stay and recover.

I refused.

I dragged my suitcase to the airport alone, every step sending a dull, slicing pain through my lower abdomen.

When the boarding announcement came over the speakers, I left the family group chat and turned off my phone.

The twenty-four-hour countdown finally hit zero.

As the plane climbed above the clouds, Sableton disappeared beneath me.

The city that had trapped me for seven years was finally gone.

Ten hours later, I landed in Viremont.

The moment I turned my phone back on, the screen flooded with missed calls.
