She Was Five Months Pregnant, I Was Three, He Was Hers Chapter 05

She Was Five Months Pregnant, I Was Three, He Was Hers Chapter 05

Just as Odessa’s mother lunged at me, a furious voice rang out from the doorway.

“Try laying one finger on my daughter!”

My mother rushed into the room and pulled me behind her. She had clearly come in a hurry–her hair was a mess, and she had even buttoned her coat wrong.

Odessa’s mother froze with her hand still raised.

My mother slapped her hard across the face.

The crack was even louder than the slap I had given Thayer.

Odessa’s mother stared at her in shock.

“You hit me?”

My mother gave a cold laugh.

“You bet I did.”

“You’re the woman who went to my daughter’s office and called her a homewrecker?”

“Your daughter made mine lose her baby!” Odessa’s mother screamed.

My mother was shaking with anger.

“And whose baby was your daughter carrying? My daughter’s husband’s!”

“Maren has been married to Thayer for three years. Your family showed up at her workplace without knowing the facts, called her the other woman, and humiliated her in front of everyone. And now you’re standing here acting like you’re the victim?”

“Where do you get the nerve?”

Odessa’s mother covered her cheek. Some of her bravado disappeared, but she still refused to back down.

“My daughter was lied to too! Thayer told her he wasn’t married. He even brought us to meet his parents! His mother personally promised Odessa that she could marry him!”

My mother whipped around to look at Thayer.

The look in her eyes could have torn him apart.

“Thayer Bellamy.”

“When you married Maren, do you remember what you promised her father and me?”

Thayer’s face went white.

“Mom…”

“Don’t call me that!” my mother snapped. “It makes me sick.”

Thayer stood there, his lips parting, but no words came out.

The longer my mother looked at him, the angrier she became.

“You and Maren have been together since high school. Do you have any idea how much she went through

with you?”

“When you had no money to start your company, whose paycheck helped keep you going?”

“When your business was running out of cash, who gave you the savings my parents had set aside for me?”

“When your father was in the hospital, Maren was the one running back and forth taking care of everything.

She did more than you, his own son.”

“And this is how you repay her?”

“You’ve only been married a few years, and you already got another woman five months pregnant. You

brought her home to meet your parents and promised her a wedding.”

“What a wonderful family you Bellamys are.”

Odessa’s mother’s face shifted between anger and embarrassment.

Apparently, even she hadn’t expected to find out that her daughter really had unknowingly become the other

woman.

But after making such a scene, she clearly wasn’t willing to admit she had been wrong.

“Thayer lied to my daughter too! She lost her baby. You can’t expect us to just forget about that!”

My mother looked at her coldly.

“Your daughter suffered. Does that mean mine didn’t?”

Just then, hurried footsteps sounded in the hallway.

A familiar voice called out.

“Thayer, how’s Odessa?”

Mrs. Bellamy hurried into the room.

As always, she was perfectly dressed and well put together, but panic was written all over her face.

The moment she stepped inside, she saw the divorce papers scattered across the floor.

Her expression changed.

“Divorce?”

She looked sharply at me.

“Maren, you can’t divorce him!”

My mother let out a cold laugh.

“Perfect timing.”

“I was just about to ask you something. Your son cheated on my daughter and got another woman pregnant. Did you know about it?”

Mrs. Bellamy’s eyes flickered away for just a second.

That was enough.

Everyone understood.

My mother looked so furious she could barely stay on her feet.

“You knew.”

Mrs. Bellamy hurried to explain.

“Please, just calm down. Thayer was wrong, I know that. But people make mistakes. That doesn’t mean they

can’t make things right.”

My mother nearly laughed.

“A mistake?”

“A mistake that lasted long enough for her to get five months pregnant?”

“A mistake that involved meeting her family?”

“A mistake that came with a promise of marriage?”

Mrs. Bellamy’s face tightened, but she still turned to me.

“Maren, I know you’ve been hurt, but you can’t end your marriage over this.”

“You and Thayer have been together for so many years, and now you’re pregnant too. If you can forgive him, I

promise Odessa will never be part of this family again.”

Odessa’s mother spun around.

“What did you just say?”

Mrs. Bellamy ignored her and kept her eyes fixed on me.

“Maren, listen to me.”

“Getting divorced while you’re pregnant will only make your life harder. Think about what comes next.”

My mother stepped in front of me.

“That’s none of your concern.”

“This divorce is happening.”

Mrs. Bellamy’s expression changed instantly.

“No. I won’t allow it.”
