On the morning of the third day, the first thing I did was check my phone for an update from the

vestigator.

Investigator: [Our hacker found out she took out loans last night… using nude photos as collateral. She used several lending sites and has probably maxed them all out by now.]

I’d been prepared for that. She’d done the same thing in my previous life: spent all my money hen borrowed from every lender she could find.

Chloe: [Okay. Keep watching her.]

Before I could put my phone down, a message from Chloe came through.

Nora: [Want to go out together? I’ve made quite a bit of extra money over the past couple of days.

Let me buy you lunch.]

Chloe: [Sure. Let’s go to the same place as last time.]

I wanted to see what she was up to.

After getting ready, I said goodbye to Chloe’s parents and Ryan, then headed straight to the

restaurant.

Chloe was dressed in designer clothes, but they were all outdated designs I’d never have chosen. Every tag had been cut off.

She was making sure I couldn’t return them or sell them as new.

I put on a smile.

“Chloe, I’m impressed. You’ve made all that money in just two days?”

“Of course. And I’ve got another big surprise for you once we switch back!”

Her smile was sweet, but I knew how cruel she was.

We finished lunch without revealing what either of us was really thinking. Instead of asking me to go shopping afterward, she seemed eager to leave. She said she had something to do and hurried

off.

I didn’t ask what it was. The investigator would tell me.

His message arrived while I was on my way home.

Investigator: [She’s about to check into a hotel with someone. Do you want the address?]

So she was about to cheat on Ethan. Luckily, I’d warned him. Otherwise, he would’ve been devastated and left the city, just as he had in my previous life.

Chloe: [No. Stop following her at midnight tonight. I’ll pay the rest tomorrow.]

Once I got home, I got ready for bed and climbed in. I watched videos and played games, but none of

it eased the mix of nerves and excitement.

Eventually, I checked the time. It was ten minutes to midnight.

I’d planned to stay awake until then, but the moment midnight hit, my consciousness slipped away. An irresistible force pulled me into a deep sleep.
