She Vowed to Kill Him for Me, Then Helped Him Propose to Another Woman Chapter 02

Vivienne bent forward as I yanked her by the hair, begging for me to let go.

The next second, I was thrown backward.

Sloane smashed a vase over my head.

Blood streamed from my scalp and soaked the entire back of my neck.

As my consciousness blurred, I heard someone in the crowd scream.

“Blood! She’s bleeding everywhere!”

The clean white dress ,now stained a deep, violent red.

Now it hung stiffly at the foot of my hospital bed.

A nurse pushed the door open and stepped into the room, her eyes full of pity as she looked at me.

“Ms. Whitfield, you can still have children in the future.”

She glanced at the stained fabric.“Seeing it may only hurt you more. Would you like me to take the dress away?”

I shook my head.

“The blood on that dress belonged to my baby.”

I whispered.“If I throw it away, I’ll have nothing left of her.”

The nurse sighed softly, removed my IV, and left the room.

Sloane arrived late.

She brought me my favorite iced latte.

When she handed it to me, I pushed it away.

“I can’t stomach anything cold right now.”

“Oh, right, right. I totally forgot.”

She scratched her head, still wearing that careless, scatterbrained expression returning to her face.

“I’m sorry, Claire…”

“I guess I hit you too hard.”

“But if you hadn’t suddenly rushed over and scared Vivienne, I wouldn’t have…”

She stammered , watching my face anxiously the whole time.

When she saw my expression darken, she quickly shut her mouth.

“Grant is busy comforting Vivienne. He asked me to tell you to get some rest and take care of yourself.”

A bitter laugh slipped out of me.

“Back then, you called them a cheating bastard and a homewrecker.”

“If I hadn’t stopped you, you would’ve gone after that woman yourself.”

“What happened now? Did she brainwash all of you?”

Sloane grabbed my hand and hurried to explain.

“Claire, you’ve never spent time with her. You don’t know how good she really is.”

“She graduated from a top university. She’s an indie singer-songwriter, the youngest literary genius anyone’s seen in years, and she’s always helping seniors and stray animals. ”

“Most importantly, she’s different from you.”

“You had parents who loved you. You grew up carefree, like sunshine.”

“She had no parents, no one to love her. She grew up alone.”

“She worked so hard. She was so strong, so kind. I just felt sorry for her.”

A sharp ache began to pulse low in my body.

“So what? That means I deserve to be trampled on by all of you?”

“If you want to play savior, don’t use me as the sacrificial lamb.”

“That’s not what we meant…”

“Claire, can’t you be understanding, the way Vivienne is?”

I wrenched my hand away from hers.

“I’m not understanding?”

“Sloane, when you were nearly killed in that boxing match and your kidneys started failing…”

“I was the one who gave you blood.”

“I was the one who donated skin for your grafts.”

“I was the one who gave you one of my kidneys.”

“Half the body keeping you alive came from me, and you’re telling me I’m not understanding?”

She went speechless.

Her throat tightened, and after a moment, she made some excuse and fled.

I lay in bed and closed my eyes, haunted by the twenty years Sloane and I had spent together.

We had fought, laughed, grown up, and run wild through our youth side by side.

But in the end, she had still changed.

Everything was the same, and nothing was.

Before I could speak, tears came first.

I wiped my eyes hard.

Then my phone suddenly vibrated.

I opened it and saw a message from an unknown number.
